Isn't it already a crime to hire illegals?

Yes, perhaps in the short term for that business, but who pays the long term costs of small businesses who ensure their own survival by illegal means? The right answer is you, and me, and every other legal taxpayer in the country, i.e. we are providing a subsidy for the law flouting business owners, and I don't know about you, but I wasn't asked if I wanted to provide such a subsidy. But, by providing that subsidy, do we not become silent partners in that in that business. Furthermore, by our being implicit partners, should we not get a share of that business's profits, and on the downside of that supposition, will we be guilty of crimes also if that business is ever investigated by legal authorities?

You know, it just dawned on me as I wrote this that "WE" the citizens are the reason government doesn't act on this issue because by not acting ourselves, we give de facto approval of the system as it is now functioning. And by giving that de facto permission, we ARE guilty in the eyes of the law because we become accomplices to the lawbreakers. What we have allowed to come to pass by our inaction and laissez faire attitude is the slow erosion of respect for the rule of law. It is no wonder that illegal immigrants, whose first illegal act is stepping foot on our soil, have no respect for our other laws. Why should they when we don't press our officials and representatives for the enforcement of all the laws on the books.

Sorry to get so off track, but this issue really upsets me because I try to live by the law, and I think others should also, but when I see open violations of the law ignored by our LEOs and gov, it makes me wonder what laws I don't like that I can ignore and get away with. In fact, maybe we should just get rid of the rule of law altogether and just have suggestions or guidelines for people to follow, with no penalty if they choose to ignore them. Yep, anarchy sounds like the way to go.
