As the Dem party has moved further left, many traditional socially conservative/pro-government individuals have become Repubs only as a last resort. In their heart, they're still pro-union/pro-gov't/anti-business.
Those numbers look good.Yeah... But what is the average annual pay for a wal mart employee? Are they the people buying new homes and new cars and driving our economy in other phases? No. Are they paying taxes that support the welfare state or are THEY part the welfare state the rest of us support with the taxes we pay???
We need to be careful with what the public subsidizes or we end up being taxed out of existance to support so called economic development.
The writer on the one hand criticizes WM for not giving enough to charities, and then when they do donate the writer criticizes WM as giving for the "wrong reasons"(ie tax write off,for pr reasons)Sounds like WM is in a lose/lose situation.
Yep.
Then you need to go after HP, DELL, GE, Disney, CocaCola, Microsoft, P&G, American Express, Verizon, Intel, etc.
Where's the outrage?
WalMart has stores in China, your list excludes. I've been in one in Shenzhen, and yes, chicoms can buy "Made in USA" products there!!
" But what is the average annual pay for a wal mart employee? "
What was the pay of the jobs those same employees left? FREE people CHOOSE to work there.
"Are they the people buying new homes and new cars and driving our economy in other phases?"
Most of the Walmart employees in my neighborhood own their own homes. The beauty of the Walmart model (building in underserviced rural America) is that labor is cheaper and so is the cost of living.
"Are they paying taxes that support the welfare state or are THEY part the welfare state the rest of us support with the taxes we pay???"
They pay taxes, they also generate sales tax revenues.
What do you propose, higher taxes? A forced increase in wages? Forced unionization?
Well, how bout I spot you an anwser. Let's just say they pay more than the minimum that people are willing to work for. Is that ok with you?
Unfortunately, truth is also your enemy.
Believe whatever the left wishes you to believe. Don't let facts get in your way.
The left doesn't hate Walmart as much as they hate success. It is de rigeur that they destroy the most successful corporations so that they can complain about job loss, underclass and all that rot. It is just another way to keep the natives on the plantation.
What's not so interesting is your blind hypocrisy.
I'm bouyed a bit by this thread. It really has a nice contrast between the anti-capitalists on FR and the real conservatives. Unlike some of the WalBashing threads I've seen, this one kinda turned the lights on the cockroaches.
Nothing is said about the unemployed. We are talking about the employed......in foreign countries.
"We pay the China fab average 3c per chip to manufacture them.
We pay the Malaysian vendor to package it (+2c)
We sell the finished chip back to Taiwan and China for 20c."
So the Chinese chip maker employee makes what....3$ a day..2$???? $1.00... how much??? And produces how many chips a day? The packager gets 2 cents. Total cost is 5 cents.
And then there is a .15 cent markup on each chip sent back to taiwan..... so the charge of $320 worth of chips includes the markup of .15 or 75%. So there is a 75% markup earned by the subsidiary that is undoubtedly owned by HP or it's counterpart. And then HP adds another $125
markup....so all the markup is post production if I read your post #132 correctly.
Same goes for manufacturing job by wal mart. all the markup and profit is post production. The very people who make those items cannot afford to buy them even in their own country, so they are exported, and that is providing good jobs?

What do you do for a living, if I may ask?
The Nation is home and megaphone to such a nest of parasites and trust-fund liberals--they make Sam Walton look prescient, IMO, for wanting to keep his hard earned fortune away from them. The bottom line is, power hungry and avaricious leftwing nuisances who are insanely envious of the Waltons' wealth.
It is a refreshing change.
Any giving which they don't control, doesn't count.
Oh! Well then! So you aren't mad at WalMart specifically, you are mad at the Chinese people that take home meager wages?
