In my opinion, NOT a smart thing to do these days with the support of his base not so great. Especially on the heels of the Miers fiasco where the only people willing to give the President the benefit of the doubt on her was pretty much the born again Christians.

Oh for crying out loud. The Bush card is much more overt than anything during Clinton's years.
It even quotes Scripture.
And, it was called a Christmas card when announced to reporters etc.

The scripture is from the old testament. Is Christmas not about the beginning of the new??

I hesitate to raise the Miers business again, but I would rather say that born-again Christians were snookered by Karl Rove into supporting her, because he gave them assurances that simply didn't pan out. As time past, most of the Evangelical leaders who were used to kick off her campaign backed away from it. What finally killed her was the discovery that she was a feminist who apparently supported a woman's right to an abortion.

That, my dear, is heresy.
Both the OT and NT are equally important to the Christian. The purpose of the OT is to POINT to Christ. To ignore the OT is to miss part of the richness of who Christ is.

Seems like W just can't catch a break these days. Pretty soon they'll be criticizing him for his shoe color.

And for WHAT reason, would a born again Christian NOT use the words MERRY CHRISTMAS on their CHRISTmas cards? To appease? Why? What does the President GAIN by appeasing?

The first poor saps who wish me a "Happy Holiday" are going get a "And A Merry Season to you too" back.
Hay, this one is usable year-round...
Christmas is for Christians, nobody else.

He is not just the president of Christians. My point is that this is much better than anything we got from Clinton.
We just notice it more due to the internet.
I doubt Reagan said Merry Christmas either in his cards.
However, Bush was very clear that the Christmas tree was in fact a Christmas tree today.

Did Reagan wear his religion on his sleeve to garner votes? Just wondering...

And my point is, had Bush sent a CHRISTMAS card, if anyone had gotten offended, the base would have told them to EF off. Instead, again he has tried to appease UNappeasables. That is my only point. I'm offended, as a Christian, that our vocally Christian President appears to be more concerned with the UNappeasables than pleasing his Lord.
