Upon further refelection, I have finally pinpointed the source of my displeasure with McClown's amendment.
This amendment effectively reduces every member of the US Armed Forces to the level of a COP.

(We should give anarchists what they want. Then we can kill them and not worry about jailtime.)

The left has defined "torture" as putting panties on someone's head, or depriving them of sleep. If that were the worst of things, no one would ever give details of the enemy's movements. I get the feeling you didn't read the entire article.
"There is also a danger that once we try to quantify precisely what constitutes torture, we could, in the ensuing utopian debate, define anything from sleep deprivation to loud noise as unacceptable. "

Of course! Don't you think a soldier should yell, "FREEZE OR I'LL SHOOT" before firing on the enemy?
Then there's Miranda, etc. etc.
Should put a crimp on recruiting.

Torture works, I'm sure we can come up with a 'humane' form of torture.
