who is "railing" against Dem corruption? See anyone investigating the sale of pardons by Clinton? the pardons used to help Hillary in the NYS election?

the issue is not defending Cunningham - no one is doing that. the issue is whether we are going to have a system where only Republican corruption is investigated, while the Dems skate free. The issue is whether we have one political party who knows how to use the power of the legal system to further their political ambitions (look only as far as Fitzgerald and Ronnie Earle), while the other party sits around with its thumb up its a*s while a rogue CIA operation is used to try and bring down a president.

I am. We are, on these forums. If we're not willing to do the same with Republican corruption, we have no right taking on the Dims for theirs.

Au contraire. There have been plenty of people on the other threads defending him, mostly using the silly argument "He's a war hero, and therefore a better man than you."

He should have started a ministry and become a televangelist, and gotten all this stuff the easy way (bilking the guillable). It worked for Creflo Dollar and all those other hucksters.

When someone stays in congress too long, they'll be overtaken by either senility or corruption (or both).

Didn't you mean to say "When someone stays in office too long, they'll be overtaken by either senility or corruption (or both)".

Unfortunately, the saying is true (and I'm paraphrasing heavily) - those best suited to the job want nothing to do with it. You get people at all levels from the city/county level on up, who will do whatever it takes to get power, keep power, and help their friends gain power.

Disgusting. He should know better. His ego and bluff and bravado got to him. Duke was a military man who had a meager retirement. When he got to Congress with the likes of Gigalo Kerry, Corzine, Jane Harmon, Pelosi, etc., he realized he was a pauper.

Envy leads to greed which leads to corruption. Shame on him. He could have retired and made big bucks as a lobbyist or gotten some cushy job with a defense contractor. Instead he is going to the big house.

When the GOP took over Congress, conservatives stopped talking about term limits. It's time to start talking about term limits again.

There's a problem - there would be some highly funded campaigns against term limits.....

$7,200 paid to an antique store for a circa 1850 Louis Phillipe period commode and a circa 1830 Restoration period commode

As disgusting as this guy is...at least I have an idea how much my two antique commodes are worth.

I guess the meanings of words change. Here is a restoration commode:

When I was kid and the word Commode was used, this is what it meant:

What is with this phenomenon of frauds using their ill-gotten gains
to purchase antique toilets?

IIRC, investigation of some misuse of federal funds by Stanford U. revealed
that the university president (chancellor?) had used some of the money
to buy an antique Italian commode.
(this happened about 20 years ago)

From the plea agreement (PDF):
METHODS AND MEANS OF THE CONSPIRACY

In furtherance of this conspiracy, defendant and his Coconspirators used the following methods and means, among others:

a. Defendant demanded, sought, and received at least $2.4 million in illicit payments and benefits from his Coconspirators in various forms, including cash, checks, meals, travel, lodging, furnishings, antiques, rugs, yacht club fees, boat repairs and improvements, moving expenses, cars, and boats;

b. Defendant made recommendations and took other official action in order to influence the United States Congress's appropriations of funds to benefit Coconspirator No. 1 [Wilkes] and Coconspirator No. 2 [Wade], which defendant did, in part, because of his receipt of the above-described payments and benefits, and not because using Coconspirators Nos. 1 and 2 was in the best interest of the country;

c. Defendant used his public office and took other official action to pressure and influence United States Department of Defense personnel to award and execute government contracts in a manner that would benefit Coconspirator No. 1 and Coconspirator No. 2, which defendant did, in part, because of his receipt of the above-described payments and 'benefits, and not because using Coconspirators Nos. 1 and 2 was in the best interest of the country;

d. Defendant used his public office and took other official action in a manner that would benefit Coconspirator No. 3, which defendant did because of his receipt of the above-described payments and benefits;

(snip)

Goes to show there are creeps on both sides of the aisle.

There are a decent amount here. It makes it hard to vote in some elections, but I choose the lesser of the two evils sometimes.

BUT what's wrong with getting an outhouse??? I sure could use one every now and then:).

yes, we can "rail" - but we can't investigate and prosecute anyone.
