I like your thinking in post #55.

Not long ago, our state retirement system built a golf course near our hometown. They also entered into an agreement with a major hotel chain to build a hotel. The golf course was on one side of the river, the hotel was on the other. It was about a 25 minute drive between the two. During the planning stage, we heard of plans to have a ferry shuttle service for the golfers to get from the hotel to the golf course. All of my friends thought it was such a grand idea. I was appalled. No telling what a ferry (or ferries) would cost. Then there is the cost of maintenance, fuel, INSURANCE, personell (probably would have to be river pilots), STATE BENEFITS, etc. Both facilities are finished and open for business and I have not heard any more about the ferries. Thank goodness. Some people have no clue how much things actually cost.
