Probably because the temps in Nov & Dec are usually pretty warm in New Jersey compared to more northerly regions. Today was the coldest day so far this fall with overnight temps in the 20's and daytime temps in the 30's. A few days ago it was nearly 60. It doesn't get cold for extended periods here until mid-late December.

There also is plenty of food (natural and manmade) still available to bears here.

Bacon fat is not acceptable to vegetarians, but they can rub themselves with donuts.

They will also be safer if they carry two dozen day old glazed donuts with them. ;-)
