I'm not sure I understand why he would have been killed in a suicide bomb attack. Premature detonation? Mis-targeted by the bomber? Our allies now using our enemy's tactics? Something doesn't add up.

No word no heard here yet, Kristopher. We can only hope.
Just the news that Zaqhari's family is ticked off at him, and have renounced him.
Thanks for keeping us informed from the other side of the pond!

Yediot Achronot, a respected Israeli news source, has reported it as a rumor. The story is linked in the other Free Republic thread on this subject.

Did a suicide bomber upset with Zarqawi set off his bomb a little early?
I doubt Zarqawi spends any time around primed explosives. Those suicide belts/vests are so unreliable I'd be surprised if any upper tier Al Qaeda commanders go within range of these things.
Then again, maybe he was wearing it and he decided it was time to martyr himself.

Les forces américaines et irakiennes alertées sur les lieux vérifient la véracité de cette information. I don't want to tell about you the images this evokes.

Guysen is a reliable site on middle-east event.

I've got good news: We just saved a bunch of money on terrorist bounty by switching to suicide bombers!
