Subject: Fwd: Problems accessing the public website for Warren County Community College
Dear Ms. Leitch,
Thank you for the article regarding Mr. Daly and events at the Warren County Community College. Below you will find a message just sent to Mr. Austin about the technical issues Warren seems to be having with their public website and I have also included a few URLs where this issue is being debated nationally online.
All for the good of the children, you can rest assured.
Best regards,

Daly stood by his email to Rebecca. He told the paper that Rebeccas conservative group is an ultra right-wing, possibly fascist, group. The "anti-fascist" (read black masked communists) from Canada who rioted in Toledo a few weeks back list FReepers and George W. Bush among "fascists" they oppose.
The terms must be defined before they can be accepted in the court of public ideas. Someone should ask this prof. if he is now or has ever been a member of a communist party.

The college should fire him for incompetence given the number of grammatical errors contained in his email to Rebbecca. It does not speak highly of this institution that they chose Professor Daly to instruct their basic writing course.

One interesting fact is that Edward Smith, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, is the senior legislative aide to the region's state legislator who just happens to be a West Point graduate. He can be contacted at:

First of all, Mr. Daly is not a professor, he is an adjunct instructor, basically a temporary hire. He may be very good or very bad, but he is not a professor. He probably does not have tenure and can be subjected to disciplinary hearings due to actions that reflect poorly on the college.
His immaturity is striking even at the academic level. And his ignorance of communist history and the number of people who have died over the last 80 years is hard to explain unless that ignorance is willful.
The President's response is even more notable. It appears to me that he badly needs a Public Relations Crisis Management course. He has misidentified the cause of his pain, publicly blaming it on a student who has chosen to exercise her right to free speech on a national level to a willing audience. His statement that the student was hurting the shool by appearing on radio and cable shows a profound immaturity, a lack of critical thinking in a fast moving environment.
If he would like to control the perception of his institution he should simply state that any employee taking actions that reflect poorly on his college will be fired immediately by the President and will not be subject to a review by any academic boards.
But I think this President is a "fourth tier guy" and nothing will change, unless the Board of Directors steps in and arranges an unpaid sabbatical. If I were on that board, I would be making informal phone calls to determine the sense of the board members as he does not seem to have the wherewithall to execute the duties of this position, one of which is to take no actions which reflect poorly on the institution.

A wh*re should be judged by the same criteria as other professionals offering services for pay, such as dentists, lawyers, hairdressers, physicians, plumbers, etc. Is she professionally competent? Does she give good measure? Is she honest with her clients? It is possible that the percentage of honest and competent whores is higher than that of plumbers and much higher than that of lawyers. And enormously higher than that of professors.

My e-mail to the college president.
Dear Mr. Austin,
I had the misfortune to read an article about the e-mail that Professor Daily sent to one of your students recently. I have pasted that e-mail below. First of all, I hope for the sake of your students that he is not a professor of economics or history. For a professor of any subject, the ignorance he displays with regard to both of these topics is truly astounding. However, more importantly, as an active duty officer, I am concerned that professor Daily is effectively urging my murder and the murder of my fellow officers. I would like to think that at even the most liberal of this countrys institutions of higher learning, calling for the murder of American military officers would result in the immediate termination of employment. I sincerely hope that you will not use some misguided interpretation of the First Amendment to avoid taking immediate action against Professor Daly. Advocating murder is not protected by the United States Constitution.
Sincerely,
......

Young Americas Foundation exposed Warren Community Colleges radical Professor John Daly, who in an email to student Rebecca Beach, vowed to intimidate those students who host conservative speakers and called for American soldiers in Iraq to murder their superiors. Instead of admonishing the professors intemperate attack on a students right of free expression, Warren Community College President William Austin said Prof. John Daly has first amendment rights to harass Rebecca. Furthermore, the President is trying to bully Rebecca into silence. He said Rebecca, not Prof. John Daly, is ruining the colleges name by going on talk radio and television exposing Dalys mean spirited email. In an interview with the Express-Times, a local New Jersey paper, Daly stood by his email to Rebecca. He told the paper that Rebeccas conservative group is an ultra right-wing, possibly fascist, group.
These liberal guys really need to develop a better sense of humor and take up some hobbies. They're taking themselves way too seriously.
Nothing they can do will stop the flow of conservative information, speech, or political activity. They might as well dedicate their lives to banning the Law of Gravity.
They should start wearing Jester caps just to maintain the unity of content and form.

Bump this one to the top again. The school has issued a new press release and while it does sound like they may yet do something, results are not in hand just yet. Read it for yourself at
http://www.warren.edu a few excerpts I'd like to point out however:
- "WCCC President Dr. William Austin personally welcomed guests to the event, held on Thursday, and introduced Rebecca Beach, president and secretary of the newly formed club. Lt. Col. Rutters talk was well received, and deemed a success by attendees." Good (so far) at least Mr Austin seems to understand that this situation is serious.
- "WCCC is further investigating Mr. Dalys conduct and his expression of views in the classroom and on campus." Again, this is a good sign. But as we all know, an investigation is not over until results are in hand. "Investigations" are often no more than a tactic to stall the public until interest fades and a return to the status quo can be quietly returned to. We can not let this happen, keep the pressure up.
- "Indeed, Mr. Dalys comments have caused much controversy on and off campus. Dr. Austin said, I personally find Mr. Dalys e-mail disgraceful and offensive, yet I must maintain that the college be a place for free expression, ideas, and open debate. Ok, this is where the message begins to slip. While it's very encouraging to know Mr. Austin is offended, he needs to see clearly that what Mr. Daly did here certainly does NOT fit under the category of "...free expression, ideas and open debate". what Mr. Daly has done was to intentionally and vindictively stifle debate or any participation in the debate by any person or group that disagrees with his own misguided concepts. In addition, he has used his position to intimidate and threaten a young student. This is simply unacceptable.
- "The college will continue to keep its pulse on this issue while maintaining its high standards of professionalism and integrity of all concerned, noted Dr. Austin." And here is the point to pay attention to. They intend to watch and see if this issue doesn't just go away quietly. Please don't let this happen.
If any of you have not already, please contact the Board of Trustees keeping this issue in their face until Mr. Daly is gone for good.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm tired of seeing examples like this go unpunished and allowed to stand. This type of behavior on our campuses has simply got to stop and stop here.Board of Trustees:

Warren County Community College to Hold an Emergency Meeting The Board of Trustees of Warren County Community College will convene an emergency meeting of the Board, Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at 6:30 PM. This meeting was called by Board Chair Edward Smith. The Board of Trustees intends to consider the welfare and rights of its students, the college community, and the public in lieu of recent events. The Board will also consider personnel issues. The college President, Dr. William Austin reiterates his statement that comments made by Mr. Daly are his own. The opinions Mr. Daly has expressed do not represent the views of the community college, administration, faculty, staff or students, nor do his views align with the college’s mission and core values. College President Dr. Austin said, “The Board of Trustees’ meeting is scheduled for the first legally available date.”

All, in light of this Emergency Meeting of the Board of Trustees and considering the tone of this press release, I am far more optimistic than earlier this morning or at any time since this incident began. I intend to send only one more email to the Board and to Mr. Austin, this time a more friendly note of encouragement and thanks for doing the right thing, and give them the benefit of doubt on this until the meeting adjourns on Tuesday evening.
It would seem that between the radio programs and the appearance on Hannity & Colmes, that Miss Breach may soon have the apology due her.
Cheers,
Lloyd

Mr. xxxxxx,
Thank you for your interest in the ongoing issue at our community college here in Warren County, NJ.
It is indeed unfortunate that something like this has happened. I do not appreciate the way that the instructor has treated our student nor do I agree with any of his positions.
I am not a member of the board of trustees of the college. I am a member of the county governing body which is similar to that of a county commissioner.
I am monitoring the situation closely and I am attaching my press release for your information.
Regards,
John DiMaio
