I saw that movie!
RUNAWAY (1984) Written and directed by Michael Crichton ("Westworld", "Jurassic Park"), Runaway is a fast-paced, futuristic sci-fi action film starring two special unit Los Angeles cops, Sergeant Ramsey (Tom Selleck) and Officer Karen Thompson (Cynthia Rhodes). Gene Simmons (yeah, the guy from the rock group KISS) played Charles Luther, the convincing cold-blooded villain along with his wayward girlfriend (Kirstie Alley) who is the object of both scorn and sympathy.

50 to 60 minutes is not that long a time.
They ought to be made with a much bigger fuel capacity so they can stay up all day or night. People will get used to thousands of drones after a while.
And whilst we are at it. lets install a few radio sets so tracking those pesky RIFD chips will be much easier.
I hate to say, but I expect these to be more a hidden radar/traffic ticketing device that a real crime stopper. Just think of the money these babies could generate.
