This is ridiculous. Our Ruling Class has decreed that they can simultaneously hold one office while taking a stab at the next rung up on the power ladder without any consequences. Basically, Corzine has won two elections here, one to be Governor and one for the privilege of appointing one of his cronies to the Senate.

National Democrats must be very worried about GOP candidate Tom Kean, Jr. if they're going to this much trouble, especially on the heels of a victory in that very state. And polls show Kean slightly ahead of the three Democrats who have announced their interest.

I think Kean will have a good shot, good name recognition, moderate like his own home state (and NJ GOP), and with the Democrats being the way they are in NJ, he could capitalize on this oppurtunity. Now I dont know a whole lot about Codey, but i hear he's the most popular Dem in NJ right now? He also seems like the kind of guy that would have ties to Unions and appeal to Blue Collar kind of guys. He could be a tough opponent, not that he is a very thrilling person, but just because he could have connections, and isnt Corzine or a Republican.

I'm not sure I understand. Wouldn't Corzine have to resign his Senate seat before he became Governor? Wouldn't that mean that, in the few seconds after he did so, the sitting Governor could appoint himself as Corzine's replacement?

I still think if Cody is the senator, it opens up an opportunity to win the Senate seat, assuming the pure conservatives don't trash the moderate republican we need to win in that state. That's a big assumption.

We need to figure out a way to get the moderates supporting true conservatives where they can win, and the conservatives settling for moderates where we have to, in order to keep control of the senate to avoid the horror of another Justice Ginsberg.

It's not going to be Menendez. It might be Codey, but my guess is Corzine wants Pallone to have it. Menendez is the stronger Dem candidate, but he's also disloyal.

And you'd be wrong. Kean, Jr. has his name, but that's about it. He's not intelligent, he's not charismatic, he's not a good manager, and he's rumored to have skeletons in his closet. Now skeletons are a dime-a-dozen in New Jersey, but the point being he's not as great a candidate as you'd think.
