Why should the children of US citizens be told to obey authority, attend school, study hard to pass English classes, while at the same time our system supports Spanish as an alternative official language that is meant to serve those who are not obeying authority, thus seemingly rewarding those who dont follow the rules and punish those who do, e.g. those who study English?
The immigrants who have been counted who are legal; statistics 2004 show there were 35.7 legal million foreign-born residents with about 15 million arriving from Latin America. Since they are legal they have been in the country some time and they most likely speak English. Because, according to Mortimer B. Zuckerman Land of Opportunity the transition from Spanish to English is virtually completed in one generation, on average.
But in addition; illegal immigrants from Latin America are as high as 20 million. Then there are more than 50% of those who speak Spanish who are also illegal immigrants.
Catering to Spanish speaking in the US, democratically speaking, is catering to more illegal immigrants than legal, those who do not adhere to the authority or sovereignty of the US borders. Not so good example for our kids who are told to do their English homework.

Voted! 69% for English as official language.
Done. Still running 69-31
Our Registrar of Voters sent my wife and I separate notices saying somebody in our household said we don't speak English. We were supposed to return them saying which language we wanted our ballots in. We threw the da**ed things away, cursing aloud how you shouldn't vote if you don't speak English.
Well, today, at the polling place, we didn't have an "X" next to our name, so the nice polling lady had to read us a notice from a huge card about our rights to get a ballot in any language. I went ballistic in front of her and the other poll workers, complaining that I've spoken English my whole life and nobody should ever ask me what language I want to vote in. They made me fill out a card saying I wanted to vote in English and get future voting materials in English. One of the poll workers actually said "Yes" when I said that people that don't speak English shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Mr. Fong was at the table helping out as an interpreter for the Chinese people who don't speak English.
BTW, my father's family immigrated from Germany in the late 1920s. They learned English pretty quickly to survive.
To top it all off, our polling place was the local firehouse. They have a new placard on the exterior of the building saying it is a "Safe Drop" location. The sign shows a pair of hands receiving a throw-away baby. Aaargh!
Just voted....it's at 69% for and 31% against.
This has an easy answer, IMO. When in Rome...

English As The "Official" Language of America?
A recent poll by a nonpartisan research firm says 83% of Marylanders believe laws should be passed making English the official language of the U.S. This would require that all official documents and government business be conducted only in English -- no more printing in other languages.
Do you agree with this proposal?

I live in California the invasion of the Spanish speaking people here is SO ANNOYING. We can not communicate because they choose to live here and we are willing to make California a mini Mexico. It is draining our schools. We voted for English only and the judges changed that. We need to take our country back. If they don't want to come in legally and learn our language, then they can go home.
Just voted it's mow 72% for to 28% against. Amen
I live in California; What's english?
Thanks for your vote.
