Most public officals could be making tons of money in private practice.

LOL. Nobody's making them run.

"Pennsylvania’s Working Families need a fair and balanced court. Justice Nigro and Justice Newman will work to protect the rights of working families."

Thanks Doc. As if we needed even more of a reason. Pa. is corrupt and our judges are a big part of it.

"I have to go, Bob, but watch yourself. These are evil men who know no limits."

I'm not an anti-pay raise moron; I agree you get what you pay for. But that's not the case here. I guess I'm a different kind of moron - one that thinks the state constitution applies even to legislators. They seem to disagree though and the court is apparently not interested in enforcing it.

Unfortunately for these 2 judges, this is the first election since the July pay raise and the first time voters have the chance to vent their anger.

"If Newman is booted, Rendell appoints a replacement?"

That was my question too. If that's the case, I'd as soon keep Newman and Nigro.

The state legislature voted itself a raise mid-term last summer. Our judges said it was fine. If judges don't uphold the constitution, they should get the boot.

And the same goes to our legislators if they violate it.

Say it loud. Say it twice.

I'm not sure if light turnout is good or bad. Most people voting today have a horse in one of the local races and would not normally think of voting for the retention election. The publicity might cause them to think otherwise now.

Also, municipal voters are usually better informed than the presidential ones, and I think very few, even among the party activists, are happy with the pay stunt. Even the party loyalists might be more inclined to opportunistically vote against the other guy -- which is not a bad thing.

And of course, there is Russ Diamond's organized campaign to boot the judges.

But keep your fingers crossed. If this pair is voted out, Harrisburg will be shook like it hasn't been in a very long time.

I'll be keeping them crossed, though low voter turnout doesn't usally bode well for conservatives/causes.

Again, not you, and again, not in this case. I was just commenting that there are a lot of clueless people out there (morons) who will always scream whenever the word payraise is associated with an elected official. I repeat my belief that elected officials should earn what they earned previously to entering public office.

Dick Cheney's pay was about $21 million at Halliburton. He should receive $21 million annually as VP.

If some panhandler runs for office and gets elected, he should panhandle as an elected official.

No person should not run for public office because they would earn a minute fraction of what they have been earning in public office. This is why so many great people never seek public office.

That is my point. The people who want all public officials to make nothing and receive no pay raises are the "clueless morons". To get quality, you need to pay for it. That goes for CEOs as well as for public officials.

Good grief 81k isn't exactly rolling in the dough.

According to the press, California is the only state with higher pay for legislators.

Yeah, the teachers say that all the time too. The more they get paid compared to private sector workers the lower quality teachers we get. Besides, this is PA, we can't out bid the mafia.

Typical Liberal/demoncrat type comment: "throw money at it"

Higher school taxes never made better government education. Nor, have higher fuel and road taxes made Pennsylvania motorways better.

Public service is exactly what it says: Public Service.

One should not take the job to get rich, or even to stay on par with private enterprise. Pennsylvania does not need a full time legislature. A professional political class.

Pennsylvania needs a political overhaul. Starting at the top and winding its way down.

We are not taking teachers of kindergarten kids.

We are talking LEADERS OF THE NATION!

Most teachers can't make squat if they were not teaching. Quite the opposite to corporate CEOs who can command mega-7 figures in the corporate world.

Your analogy was ludicrous.
