He's wrong from what I've seen and read in claiming this has much to do with Islam. The rioters are not jihadis they are hip hop thugs. It's the Rodney King riots in Arabic, not a fundamentalist Islamic revolt.

I think Buchanan is right to point out that huge bodies of unassimilated immigrants in the long run doom any culture.

Snapshot in time does not hold 45 years into the future as claimed by Patsy. By this rationale, we've been overrun by the Germans (how is your Deutsch these days?), the Irish (kiss the Blarney Stone lately?), and the Chinese (use chopsticks for all your meals?).

Two examples. My friend's family immigrated to the U.S. from Hong Kong back in the 1940s. He speaks with a Texas drawl, wears cowboy boots, and is also fluent in Cantonese and Spanish. He's conservative Republican and married to a red-headed lass who is an FBI special agent. My mother's family immigrated to this country from Mexico about the same time. Two generations later, I'm the only one in the family who speaks Spanish...and I learned it in school. No one in my family has the slightest inclination to give anything to Mexico. We're Americans. We've assimilated.

A Tex-Mex guy I work with said many Arabs were living on the periphery of the Mexican neighborhoods (Chicago). Most moved out right after 9-11.

Buchanan is no doubt a smart man, but sometimes I don't think his ideas are consistent. If the policies he endorses today were followed, there would be no Western civilization, and certainly no United States.

And are you so sure you understand Coughlin, if you are so convinced Buchanan is his acolyte?

Coughlin was an isolationist who found Zionist banker conspiracies in everything. His anti-semitic views led to the Church ordering him to cease his radio broadcasts. Buchanan's father was a big Coughlin supporter. Given that Buchanan's isolationist and anti-semitic views are identical to Coughlin, the fruit didn't fall far from the tree. Buchanan still argues that Hitler didn't want war with the U.S...and places the blame on FDR and the Jews for American involvement in the war in Europe.
