No problem... they can do that unimpeded in America.
It is when they start torching other Americans' property that the game changes to something other than "free speech."
A shootout would not be the obvious response at all, in America. It would all depend on how law enforcement responded. If law enforcement took the attitude that certain geographical areas of the country were "no-go areas" then I can't imagine a jury in America convicting someone who lived in such an area, racked by riots, who defended himself, his family, and his property with force, lethal if necessary. Arrested by the state, maybe? Convicted by his peers, I don't see it.
Case in point: Korean shopowners in the LA riots.
I'm proud of those shopowners for their initiative, and for not acting French.
And by the way, there is no mention of arrest, even when the circumstance occurs not during a riot:

It is the American citizen, working under the penumbra of the the American Constitution, who keeps us free from tyranny. Even when our elected representatives commit national resources for the defense of freedom, they hopefully do so at the behest of their free constituents, in the finest spirit of American freedom. God bless America.
My daughter just studied him in her 3rd grade history. My husband and I were thinking the same thing. He fought the battle of Tours and saved Europe from the Muslims twelve or thirteen hundred years ago and now Europe is being handed back to the Muslims with not even a fight.
For those not familiar with Charles Martel :
The Battle of Tours earned Charles the cognomen "Martel", for the merciless way he hammered his enemies. Many historians, including the great military historian Sir Edward Creasy, believe that had he failed at Tours, Islam would probably have overrun Gaul, and perhaps the remainder of Catholic Europe. Other reputable historians that echo Creasy's belief that this battle was central to the halt of Islamic expansion into Europe include William Watson, and of course, Edward Gibbons, who believed the fate of Christianity as we know it hinged on this battle.

Not that I'm a believer in astrology or what have you - but I do note the interesting coincidence of the prominence of Mars in the night sky and this round of violence. I do wonder if it wasn't the God of War or just a pre-arranged signal to start an uprising.
I don't lay awake at night uttering prayers to God for France's comeuppance, but we have a golden opportunity here. They haven't started on us big-time yet (although that litany of wake up calls should have churned that ridiculous asssemblage we call a congress into some action and led by a president who closes the borders, kicks all illegal aliens out the back door they used to enter.)
He then should neuter the offensive evil countries using surgery by way of nuclear-tipped strategic strkes against these enemies.
If the USA acted decisively the weenies would cry for weeks.
WE should "send a message" (Washington silly asses are always wanting to send messages) that the USA isn't to be trifled with.
Great response.
I suppose it is a cultural thing. Where I grew up (a small town in England) the only people who carried guns were farmers and police on special duty.
I can't imagine my countrymen with guns or Americans without them.
To each his own.......
Actually, they do; France has a very active hunting culture - birds, deer, wild pigs, etc. They just don't have the high-capacity, self-loading guns that us "gun nuts" love so much. And they probably have rules about storage, self-defense, etc., that hamstring their citizens from saving their Republic.
Just remember there are elements in the USA that would try to keep you from defending yourselves and your homes, too!
These are the same people that thought we were too hasty in Iraq.
What else is new? I swear leftists live with their heads stuck up their butts.
It isn't as easy trying it with these mooslems. They are the antithesis of Frenchmen. They don't drink wine and they don't eat pork. They do like to rape young children, however.

I wasn't quite sure of your angle of questioning, but your explanation of your background clears a lot up. England is a merry old place (my sister lived in Mildenhall for a decade), and until recently, the poulation, at least to an outsider, seemed quite civil. The fact that bobbys only carried nightsticks, etc. reinforced that kindler, gentler, image. So I can see where the culture of firearms was not really indiginous to the culture.
I suppose that the crucible of America's forming was one in which arms were required just to shoot your dinner, but also the land was rough, and sparsely populated, so frequently there was no law enforcement that could be called upon quickly, in time of need. The can-do American spirit gave people the confidence to handle problems themselves. Also, the people's heritage, that of escaping persecution in the old country I think hardened Americans to the notion that, "now that I'm free, I'm not goning to let anyone take this away from me" was a prevalent force, as well.
Anyhow, it is an interesting study of how different cultures arise, but I feel very confortable with the notion that many of my neighbors may be armed. Moreso, than if they weren't. Cheers!
I admire your logic.
