Of course he does. And they accompany him on the street.

Buy Richard Miniter's new book: "Disinformation"

You will be stunned at what the media has hidden from the public. If the repubs think this info is public knowledge - just because they know about it - then they are fooling themselves. Maybe the truth has finally reached the WH.

What I thought. Goss, I bet, has more than the two customary bodyguards.

We live in dangerous times.

Yeah, I'm hoping Goss and Mueller have been given the go-ahead to clean house really good. It's time to stop the leaking and smearing of the WH.

Maybe it's the old poker player in him holding his cards close to his vst until now. I hope so! I remember this.............

I was hoping there might be a 'rabbit-in-the-hat' as well. . .thinking. . .this just makes no sense - there is a plan, yes!

But when Libby was indicted; I think the hoped-for rabbit disappeared into a cosmic black hole.

But if Hume is right. . .REALLY right and Repubs fight. . .perhaps that rabbit will return to the light. . .

Meantime. . .disgusted. . .until I see some real evidence that Repubs will get a grip.

Democrats for Regime Change
From the September 16, 2002 issue: The president has some surprising allies.

THE PRESIDENT mulls a strike against Iraq, which he calls an "outlaw nation" in league with an "unholy axis of terrorists, drug traffickers and organized international criminals." The talk among world leaders, however, focuses on diplomacy. France, Russia, China, and most Arab nations oppose military action. The Saudis balk at giving us overflight rights. U.N. secretary general Kofi Annan prepares a last-ditch attempt to convince Saddam Hussein to abide by the U.N. resolutions he agreed to at the end of the Gulf War.

Administration rhetoric could hardly be stronger. The president asks the nation to consider this question: What if Saddam Hussein

"fails to comply, and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop his program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made? Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction."

The president's warnings are firm. "If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." The stakes, he says, could not be higher. "Some day, some way, I guarantee you, he'll use the arsenal."

These are the words not of President George W. Bush in September 2002 but of President Bill Clinton on February 18, 1998. Clinton was speaking at

the Pentagon, after the Joint Chiefs and other top national security advisers had briefed him on U.S. military readiness. The televised speech followed a month-long build-up of U.S. troops and equipment in the Persian Gulf. And it won applause from leading Democrats on Capitol Hill.

The Iraq Liberation Act

October 31, 1998

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release

October 31, 1998

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

Today I am signing into law H.R. 4655, the "Iraq Liberation Act of 1998." This Act makes clear that it is the sense of the Congress that the United States should support those elements of the Iraqi opposition that advocate a very different future for Iraq than the bitter reality of internal repression and external aggression that the current regime in Baghdad now offers.

Let me be clear on what the U.S. objectives are: The United States wants Iraq to rejoin the family of nations as a freedom-loving and law-abiding member. This is in our interest and that of our allies within the region.

The United States favors an Iraq that offers its people freedom at home. I categorically reject arguments that this is unattainable due to Iraq's history or its ethnic or sectarian make-up. Iraqis deserve and desire freedom like everyone else. The United States looks forward to a democratically supported regime that would permit us to enter into a dialogue leading to the reintegration of Iraq into normal international life.

My Administration has pursued, and will continue to pursue, these objectives through active application of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The evidence is overwhelming that such changes will not happen under the current Iraq leadership.

In the meantime, while the United States continues to look to the Security Council's efforts to keep the current regime's behavior in check, we look forward to new leadership in Iraq that has the support of the Iraqi people. The United States is providing support to opposition groups from all sectors of the Iraqi community that could lead to a popularly supported government.

On October 21, 1998, I signed into law the Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 1999, which made $8 million available for assistance to the Iraqi democratic opposition. This assistance is intended to help the democratic opposition unify, work together more effectively, and articulate the aspirations of the Iraqi people for a pluralistic, participa--tory political system that will include all of Iraq's diverse ethnic and religious groups. As required by the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for FY 1998 (Public Law 105-174), the Department of State submitted a report to the Congress on plans to establish a program to support the democratic opposition. My Administration, as required by that statute, has also begun to implement a program to compile information regarding allegations of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes by Iraq's current leaders as a step towards bringing to justice those directly responsible for such acts.

The Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 provides additional, discretionary authorities under which my Administration can act to further the objectives I outlined above. There are, of course, other important elements of U.S. policy. These include the maintenance of U.N. Security Council support efforts to eliminate Iraq's weapons and missile programs and economic sanctions that continue to deny the regime the means to reconstitute those threats to international peace and security. United States support for the Iraqi opposition will be carried out consistent with those policy objectives as well. Similarly, U.S. support must be attuned to what the opposition can effectively make use of as it develops over time. With those observations, I sign H.R. 4655 into law.

WILLIAM J. CLINTON

THE WHITE HOUSE,

October 31, 1998.

I know he released a few of the higher ups at the FBI - I suspect it was more like - resign or be fired. I don't know that for a fact. But the FBI has been much quieter about what they're doing .. and much more active in investigating what's going on.

I think they're doing a better job than they were doing

I must assume your comment in #145 is humor. No one could possibly believe that the White House would pay any attention at all to what Bill Kristol says.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, it was an attempt at humor/sarcasm. The media attributes way too much influence to Kristol. And though he may have some good advice on occasion, he is often whiny and defeatist.
ooops...Kristol is a day late. Tony Snow announced on his Friday show the same info. The WH has gathered the info needed to fight the dims.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perhaps Kristol failed to authorize himself to authorize the WH to defend itself. LOL

The media attibutes way too much influence to Kristol's views, opinions, and whining.

Why all of the sudden now, after 2 1/2 years of letting the opposition say whatever they want without challenging it?
