"And what was INTERESTING to me is I had to bribe a taxi driver a considerable amount of money just to take me out there. They're miserable places. But what was INTERESTING to me is that after that, I then flew on to the Middle East, and I was in Yemen, and a couple of other places. And what was INTERESTING to me was..."

Steyn had a lot of interesting things to say. :D

I just have a feeling that those french * youths * will find a * leader * soon, that leader will calm them down while staging something of much more grandeur with the * spiritual leaders* of those communities...we will have a lull soon, followed by a bang, be it days or weeks or months...soon

And unlike every other nation on earth, the French don’t have to deal with the pissy complaining and haughty second-guessing of their decisions by the French.

Excellent point!!!

They basically figure if you go there, you're on your own. You're taking your own chances there. I mean, I don't think Americans understand quite the degree of alienation of some of these groups.

Not unlike some sections of America's major cities

Only a government like Israel or the US would approve and have that capability.

Ya mean like how the USA handled its riots since 1960

You wouldn't characterize that as APPEASE

Here's an idea: Here's an idea -- A Contract for Immigrants. You sign it before you get to France. You agree that you've got work lined up, and that you won't become a burden.

You've got 5 years to decide whether you want citizenship. There's a test you must pass, and it's given in French. You're asked about French and European history. You're quizzed on the form of government, on the rights and responsibilities of citizens. You're tested on your understanding of French culture: are you familiar with the great people and events? Can you be French?

France offers citizenship classes. You're an immigrant and you want to stay in France and you know there's this test coming up, so you go to citizenship class. It's up to France help you learn what you need to become a good citizen of France.

During those 5 years, you're on probation. You're not a citizen. If you mess up -- if you become a burden, if your kids keep getting in trouble with the law, if you're delinquent in paying your bills -- then France can just kiss you goodbye.

That would certainly change the equation.

To them, this is all about economic disadvantages. They barely ever mention the islamic aspect of it all, and when they do it’s just in passing.

Yep. "Everything they learned, they learned in Kindergarten.

Sorry, but I do disagree. I think the French should consider hiring the Mafia for this job. Done very quietly. Where would the terrorist recruiters then direct "new recruits" to what cell, where?

"Aussies are totally dependent on our military."

Aren't you confusing Australia with Canada?

Let the French fight them over there so we won't have to fight them over here.
