I thought that the French were the perfect examples of how to create a just, equitable and sustainable, not to mention peace-loving, society! Practically perfect in every way. Friend to all mankind. Gentle, cultured and progressive. Paradise found. How could this happen?

You must be correct. There have been reports of shots fired at the French police, doesn't mean they couldn't have scored guns on the black market, but early reports said the police station was overrun and burnt, but now they say simply beseiged, as if that's some piece of cake.

The French "solution" will probably be to make the muslim areas independent islamic enclaves, under sharia law.
