I can understand your conclusions, but my first hand experiences of muslims in this country do not back those views up. Whilst fighting Irish terrorism Britain made the mistake of lumping all nationalist catholics together as terrorists and treating them thus. The solution was actually to isolate the real terrorists from the people who merely supported their aims without wanting to resort to violence. It is always difficult to maintain the freedoms of the majority whilst protecting them from the minority, but we must try.

You are quite welcome to your opinion, but remember that without the British monarchy, the Magna Carta would never have been written

Neither would the Declaration of Independence, and in pretty much the same sense.

. . .'And without those Yankees, who didn't have the brains to write a consitution, you might well be speaking German now!'. . .

Hmmm. . .I'm not quite sure how you work that one out as we destroyed the luftwaffe during the battle of Britain and destroyed Hitlers hopes of ever putting operation sealion (the planned nazi invasion of Britain) into action well before you decided to join up with the good fight. Having sea between us and the Nazis and the fact that the Royal Navy was the largest navy in the world also helped a bit too. Hitler had long given up plans to invade us by the time you started helping, but you definitely saved the French, still, we all make mistakes!

actually, this photo of cam is quite good.

Well, that's a great picture of her with the American flag behind her, I'll say that.

Also, for some reason, she looks a lot better in the raspberry red or whatever red tone color that is dress, than in the blue dress.

Sheesh you guys...the American Revolution ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783. They're our friends now, and have been since WWI. Give it a rest.

Who better to beat up on than our friends, the Brits.

At least it's in good fun, picking on their Royal Family.

Now France, on the other hand...

I will admit the suit she wore to Ground Zero was in good taste.

well before you decided to join up with the good fight

I don't mean to belittle the Brit's determination in battle, but you might want to consider the timeline on American contributions. Furthermore, your Air Force was decimated, and your Navy wasn't technologically sufficient to defend your homeland. Newsflash. The English Channel isn't that big. I hear you have a tunnel now.

The blue dress should have been full length. Her above the waist photos are okay, her hair and makeup and jewels are fine....still, with two dressers and 20 servants along it seems they could have done better.

Can't wait to see what she wears tonight and what Laura wears etc. also, has anyone seen the official guest list yet?

I think this whole thread needs to take a breath and lighten up a little.

It's simply never wrong to act with a little class, and that is how this country will recieve British Royalty on an official visit. All the harping on Camilla is a bit old and tiresome, and reflects badly on us.

If they want to be fawned all over, they should have stayed home.

Or be cooler.

Whew man, cool off.

Nobody is attacking the Brits. Criticizing the titular head of state is no more an attack on Britain than critcizing Bush is an attack on America.

Having said that, and originally having been critical of Bowles, taking another look at her, she looks like a real "hot" looking lady, comments here to the contrary notwithstanding. I'm really sorry about Charles and Diana and what happened there. Living your life in a fishbowl can't be a pleasant experience for anyone and something should be done to control the press and those ghouls called the Paparazzi.

I know the British Royal Family has an outstanding history of fighting the Muslims. So do most of the royal families in western Europe. Which makes it all the more painful when some of their modern descendents praise Islam or offer excuses for its threatening behavior.

America owes a great debt of gratitude to Britain. If there were no Britain, there would have been no America. Not without meaning has the American Revolution been called the Brothers' War. The concepts of Freedom, Republican Government, trial by jury, representative government, taxation by approval of elected officials, etc, all valued american rights, have their roots in English history.

Excluding the unfortunate occurances of 1776 and 1812, Britain and America are joined by strong cultural and historical ties which transcend any temproary differences.

"Now France, on the other hand..."

The Brits are our cultural forefathers, friends and closest allies.

The French on the other hand, have been our enemies since 1689 in America, and since 1066 in Europe.

I do want to believe that. And will be the first to admit it if I'm wrong. Have you visited some of our more volatile threads on the islamic threat since you've been here? I'm curious as to the reaction posts such as yours may have engendered. Not to say you have said anything wrong, but some of us are less than tolerant when it comes to the ROP.

Wish you well.

Magna Carta is just a small part of what we owe to our British heritage. Also English Common Law, trial by jury, and many of the other rights Americans take for granted.

Americans should remember that their founding fathers were really fighting for what they believed were their rights as Englishmen.

Here you go:

http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/page308.asp

As for the rest of your post, most of it is nonsense, I'm afraid. Edward VIII's apparent Nazi sympathies occured before the Nazis were anything other than a successful political party that all countries including the US were happy to do business with. Indeed, George Bush's maternal grandfather, George Herbert Walker, the founder of GH Walker Investment bank was Hitlers leading financial supporter in the US from 1924 on. Both were naive about the nazis and with the benefit of our 20:20 hindsight we can see that.

Your assertion that a monarchy (rule of one) in 2005 is morally wrong is factually incorrect and merely an opinion. We are not a monarchy, we are a constituional monarchy. That is, the monarch has no political power or influence whatsoever - all government is done by democratic means in the mother of all parliaments. Our Prime Minister has less political power than your President over the rest of their respective govt.s so the US President is a far better example of the rule of one than anything we have in the UK.

Divorce does not bar one from becoming monarch and has not done so since we split with the pope nearly 500 years ago. It is merely your opinion that a divorcee should be barred.

You are free to harbour whatever religious beliefs you wish, but I suspect any God worth his salt would have done more to stop the 'idolatrous' English monarchy from being the most successful conquerors of the world over the last 500 years if he thought they were bad people. As it was, God decided that the English language and belief of personal freedom should stretch further across the globe than any other, so who am I to argue with his big plan? As to your secular point of view, children in the UK don't grow up knowing their place - the majority of our PM's have been from working class backgrounds, the majority of your Presidents from old money.

As for your final point, Britain wouldn't be Britain without the monarchy. They have lead us for a thousand years from a small wet island into the greatest empire the world had ever seen. Just as my views on guns in the US are irrelevant, your views from 3000 miles away on what makes my country special is irrelevant.

We must cherish what is important to us and not care what others think, just as you must.

And to think all this came about because you don't think HM the Q earns more for the Uk than she spends! ;-)

There is the cross. You asked back on 9-11 what happened to it. As you can see, it is visited by travelers from around the world.
