"Second, this appointment ignores the value of diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the Supreme Court."

The Dems have made clear that they will not support a conservative black or Hispanic candidate.

Me too!! Reid should resign for his racist remarks of not having two American Italians on the bench.

Let's get it on!! The war for american culture is on. Ie, life, campaign finance reform, saying a prayer in school, the pledge of allegiance, the death penalty, giving the president the power to deal with terrorists, and on and on. Kudos to the President for this nomination (better late than never.)

Actually, if you wanted to be technically correct, you'd have noted that these are the United States (plural).

It's a subtle difference, but in reality it makes all the difference. Recognizing that the several States are individual and sovereign preserves our Republic and limits the federal government to its Constitutionally restricted boundaries.

Recognizing the United States as a singular entity advances the notion that we have a national government which is supreme over the States and the People.

When Harry's disappointed and sad,
he makes me optimistic and glad.

I am disappointed in this choice for several reasons.

Glad to hear it!

First, unlike previous nominations, this one was not the product of consultation with Senate Democrats.

Since when does the President need to consult with you losers for nominees to SCOTUS? Did Slicky Will "consult" the Republicans to ... oh. He didn't need to. They just rolled over and nominated his ultra-left-wing choices!

Cry a river, Mr. Reid and shut-up. Oh, and if you try to filibuster, dodge this:

For the third time, he has declined to make history by nominating the first Hispanic to the Court.

Yeah? When are we Polish-Ukrainian Jews who've had their gall ballders removed going to get our representative on the court??

McCain was on @nus in the morning and seemed to support Alito but was going to see how he did in the hearing. It certainly didn't sound like he thought the RINOs on gang of 14 would automatically object.

"I look forward to meeting Judge Alito and learning why those who want to pack the Court with judicial activists are so much more enthusiastic about him than they were about Harriet Miers."

Try winning a few elections and maybe you too could make nominations to the Supreme Court. Talk about impotent. The Democrat party as a whole needs Viagra.

I am disappointed in this choice for several reasons.

If Harry Reid doesn't like him, then I'm in favor. And if another supreme, like John Paul Stevens, retires then maybe Bush will put Janice Rogers Brown or Priscilla Owen in his place. Now wouldn't that be awesome?

President Bush would leave the Supreme Court looking less like America and more like an old boys club.

Like the 'Rat leadership in the Senate. VERY old boys.
