Libby testified that not only did he approve of the pardon, he actually called Rich to offer his congratulations the moment he heard the news.
Not exactly something a true blue conservative would do, is it? Makes you wonder which side this guy is on.
Now, to call Libby a GOP lawyer is a stretch. Prior to joining the Bush administration, Mr. Libby served as the Managing Partner of the Washington office of the international law firm of Dechert, Price & Rhoads. He was a member of the firms litigation department and chaired the Washington offices Public Policy Practice Group. Dechert, Price & Rhoads Dechert, Price & Rhoads firm is listed by OpenSecrets.org as Democratic Party campaign donors exclusively:
DECHERT PRICE & RHOADS PHILADELPHIA,PA 19103 9/29/1992 $3,000 New Jersey Gala '92
DECHERT PRICE & RHOADS PHILADELPHIA,PA 19103 10/3/1991 $250 DNC/Non-Federal Corporate
DECHERT PRICE & RHOADS PHILADELPHIA,PA 19103 2/22/1996 $1,000 DNC/Non-Federal Corporate
Contributions to the GOP: $0.00.
Wait. There's more.
Ol' Scooter Libby was awarded the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award and the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award in 1993....... from the Clinton Administration.
I guess Marc Rich must have been gratified to know he had a "friend" in the new Bush administration, right smack dab in the VP's office.
Having a foot in both political camps, although totally unprincipled, is so handy, especially if you are a traitor, and a convicted tax cheat.
Shucks, Rich must be really peeved that Libby got indicted, and is gone from the WH.
OTOH, knowing Rich's friend in the Bush administration is gone sure makes authentic, true blue conservatives feel really good.
Hmmm. A Web of International Intrigue. A Puzzle. Here are SOME of the pieces:
- Marc Rich, Criminal Oil Magnate
- Oil for Food Program
- Oil for Terrorism Program / Oil for Nuclear Prolification Program
- IRAQ Oil (in particular)
- $addam, Chirac, Kofi and Niger Tea
- Protect $addam at All Co$t$ ($top The War)
- The Clinton$ and Deni$e Rich (Hillary'$ Campaign / The Clinton Memorial)
- The Midnight Pardon of Marc Rich
- $cooter Libby Happily A$$i$t$ in The Defen$e
- Jet$et Jo$eph Wil$on, his wife Valerie Outed-Plame
- Their boy Elroy ($cooter & The Pre$$)
- One Very U$ed Judith Miller
- Forgery: The French Connection...Wil$on'$ Ex
- Yellow Cake and The $ixteen Word$
- Colin Powell, State Department, TWO Iraq Wars
- Dick Cheney??? hires $cooter as Chief of Staff???? (What is he anyway? A 'stealth' Republican who is so convincing that he can fool the VP? Or is it a case of keeping your enemies close?)
That last piece doesn't fit...unless we also remember that people like Richard Clarke and George Slam-Dunk Tenent were kept on after the Clinton-to-Bush Administrations transition period. And BJ 'Cigars, Sex & Saxophones' Clinton is allowed to bask in respect. He's 'tight' with GHW Bush, doncha know.
Oh well. I have to think about this some more. I like puzzles, but this all seems so incestuous somehow.
I was stunned when I found out this information. Why would anyone want to hire a chief of staff who supported anything connected with Marc Rich.
I wonder what Libby thinks now .. the latest UN Report on the oil for food scandal seems to point directly at Marc Rich's involvement. Which was probably another reason the Clintons didn't want the war in Iraq - and another reason Clinton pardoned Rich in the first place.
Ok, that's it. Never mind if the case against him is factual. He's a freind of Rich. Skip the trial, let's hang him now!
Scooter was vice-president of Yale's student Democrats...an active anti-war student activist...out of college he worked for Dechert Price, a law firm that **only** donates money to Democrats...from 1985 to 2000 Scooter was infamous Democrat Marc Rich's attorney (of President Clinton's Pardon-gate infamy)...Scooter won two awards in 1993 from the Clinton Administration...also did NSC work for the Clinton Administration...and never made a donation to a Republican.
His wife was more recently a staff attorney for Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee, a position to which Democrats apply a litmus test (either you are one of them or else you don't get on it).
