A Prediction - Sunday, October 23, 2005 @ 11:03:36 AM
Official Washington buzzes with the prediction Karl Rove will be indicted this week. Now is a good time to buck the buzz and predict he will not.
Just from reading the verbose news reports one can gather that the chances of an indictment for Rove are minimal. For one, though the press reports that lawyers (unnamed) say he has been told he is in serious danger, this loose language is insufficient to conclude indictment is near. I have yet to see it reported that Rove has been notified that he is a target of an investigation by the prosecutor, which according to the Justice Department guidelines is mandatory if he were in serious danger. Nor does it appear that he has even been notified that he falls into that far lesser category, namely, subject of an investigation. For another thing, the only problem with Roves grand jury testimony that we are aware of is that during one of his grand jury appearances he neglected to mention a meeting with a reporter. It is unlikely that this omission could constitute grounds for an indictment. Innocent failure to recall when not asked a specific question is not a crime. When Rove was asked specifically about the meeting he apparently acknowledged it.
Thus my guess is Rove goes free. Karl, take the week off and clean up your garage or head for the beach.

Sorry Mia- there is no way the democrats would have allowed the President to short circuit this. Can you imagine the wails out of the left? Especially during an election year????
Basically- we have no choice but to play this out and fight like Tom Delay is fighting.
Assumptions are made regarding objectivity ...
In today's political environment that counts for ...?
I have, for years, been critical of Bush's relationships, actions, decisions, involving his political enemies. Perhaps he's been taking Lincoln's advice on the matter too literally. (The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.)
I dont care if Scooter goes down because he was Marc Rich's atty when Clinton gave him a pardon. But if there are NO named Democrats indicted, I will be P*SSED!
I really just wanted to make you aware of the American Thinker article by James Lewis.
But getting back to President Bush, he has a way of surprising not only his enemies and detracters, but his friends and supporters as well.
My guess is this time next year he'll be riding high.

That is how I see it - the dems drinking their own bathwater again. I think they are getting as much out of this as they can now, because by week end they will be looking for another topic.
related to the "buy on opinion/sell on news" theory.
Personally - if there is an indictment , I wonder how close Fitzgerald has come to conspiracy to get it? Reporter goes to jail to protect someone who had already given permission to use his name? There are some very confusing things here.
Hannity also ties Comey to the Berger 'prosecution.' When the Left assesses clintoncorruption (treason, rape, or whatever), a clown-like character of the crime or the criminal is the reliable default mitigating factor, with the magnitude of the mitigation directly proportional to both the intensity of clownlike affect and the seriousness of the crime and inversely related to the distance to an election in which a clinton is running.
We used to execute rapists and traitors. Today we elect them president?

There is a logic to the Tyrrell analysis. I hope he's right.
His premises, however, are based on an absence of evidence, which we all know, is not evidence of absence.
thx and bump:)
Relax -- Ronald Reagan's numbers went down into the 30's during his 2nd term.
"Fitzgerald was appointed by his pal of 14 years, Deputy Attorney General James Comey (who was, himself, appointed by Bush, of course)."
Fitzgerald was nominated for US Attorney by Bush and his appointment became effective 4 years ago today. His term is up tomorrow. Can he be a special prosecutor if he is not a US Attorney? (He remains an acting US Attorney until replaced or he resigns or is reappointed). Reportedly Bush has not signed his reappointment paperwork. I presume he wants to see the charges before he finds his pen.
More great work. It seems the filthy tentacles of the Clintons have touched just about every bit of slime that exists. Your work is a constant reminder of just how vile they are. Thanks again Mia T.
BTTT
Sheesh, I almost missed it. Fitzmas, huh?
The political nature of recent prosecutions is alarming. I just hope the left understands CWII isn't winnable.

Great work, Mia! Thanks for putting the spotlight on the Comey-Fitzgerald alliance. This is smelling more and more like a conspiracy by Fitzgerald and his buddies.
Who are the real partners in crime here?
DOH! We all knew that already.
Mia wasn't born yesterday, you know.
I am not buying that. the stack of lies from Wilson are many. the administration never made an attempt to attack him, point out those lies, and they were too quick to let go of the Niger allegation (which is true by the way). there was no "outcry" from the american people for a special prosecutor regarding the release of the name of a woman who was on the vanity fair cover.
