"Miller did write it."

Thanks for the reminder; I read that piece, but forgot the comments about Libby criticizing the CIA. It sounds to me that Abramson did not want Miller to write anything that might cast doubt on Wilson's veracity. Based on Miller's account of her testimony, I see little if any evidence that Libby or Cheney broke any laws or even did anything unethical. Maybe that is why the NYT is mad at her.

Agreed on both points.

"Agreed on both points."

However, the ending of her story, with the (apparently) chance meeting with Libby the Cowboy at a rodeo did give the story a touch of drama and evoked Novak's "partisan gunslinger" image.

You know, reading this.. and looking at the tea leaves.. all of the sudden. I think that Fitzgerald is not after Rove at all. It seems insane.. but all of those redacted pages as a reason to keep Miller in jail are not about Karl Rove.

The more I read about this.. the more it looks like one of two things.

1) (As presented in the MSM - The Whitehouse created a complete scam to justify the war with Iraq.. which is bizarre because the country had been attacked and we were at war and Iraq has absolutely established to be a front in that war. The scam would have been exposed in the Senate Intelligence Committee that instead pointed its finger at the contrary scam.

Or 2) The CIA was involved in trying to stage a bloodless Coup for the control of the United States of America.

Now, if Fitzgerald is exposing all over the place, deep deep classified unfiltered access to the whole of the US intelligence apparatus. And the press would have us believe that this is all about catching Karl Rove in a memory lapse????

In this article, we learn that perhaps Scooter Libby poured out his concerns about a CIA conspiracy to Miller, who just happened to know the other players in this game. And this was the leak that attracts the prosecutor's attention?

Supposing that Fitzgerald is after Rove and Libby while completely ignoring this coup attempt has the world upside down, especially with all of the lines of investigation this guy has been heading on.

One can only conclude, that this investigation will lead to the most horrific scandal Republican's have ever seen based on the world of truth and fiction being upside down. (Sadly a state of affairs many conservatives have cynically come to regard as normal.) Or, if the facts of the CIA plot story have any truth, then there is going to be a collective breath intake as Fitzgerald rounds up of alot of Communist and Terrorist sympathizers who have been actively trying to undermine the United States in a time of War. Treason. Now thats a charge worthy of Fitzgerald's special attention. That would cause a Judge to toss poor Judy Miller in jail.

The next few days will see. Is Fitzgerald a patriot or a co-conspirator? Or, as Michael Moore would have you believe, this was all a neo-con conspiracy to rule the world?

Was it Mayer or Abramson who printed the leak about Linda Tripp's arrest in her younger years?

It seems one of them got a leak from the Pentagon's personnel file.

Do I remember that correctly?

Check out my reply here (#42)

It lays the whole thing out. Wilson, the French and the CIA agents. Wilson is also connected to the Middle East Institute, a Saudi run group. The reason? They all had their fingers in the oil for food pie.

Miller could have revealed that Wilson was recommended for the mission by his own wife, a CIA employee. His wife's role was critically important because a truly undercover CIA operative would not recommend her husband for an overseas trip and then expect to maintain her "secret" identity as he proceeded to write an article for the New York Times and become a public spectacle because of it. Her role in the trip means that she was not undercover in any real sense of the word.

Bingo!

Jane Mayer wrote the story in The New Yorker in March, 1998. I can't find a copy of the article, but I did find this article from FR! http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a38f3a5dd1c59.htm

The man who leaked Linda Tripp's confidential information to Jane Mayer was Ken Bacon.

Thanks for reminding me it was Mayer who 'smeared' Linda Tripp. IMO, she and Jill Abramson are both liberal, partisan hacks who I wouldn't trust in a skinny minute. I have no proof, just a feeling, that Jill Abramson knew the Wilkins in DC, and I think she did refuse Judith Miller's request to write about Joe Wilson's article that was published in the NYT. They both worked for the paper, so it would make sense that Miller be allowed to write about it.....especially since she had some expertise regarding WMD. Abramson denies Miller asked her, but I don't buy it. What would be the purpose for Miller to lie about her? That's why I think the NYT, Wilson and the CIA were in cahoots to bring down the Bush Administration. It would not be the first time Jill Abramson tried to ruin a person's reputation and career. It seems everyone has an opinion, and that's mine, FWIW.

I was wondering about that just the other day

It might explain the windfall of money Wilson seems to have
