I haven't download the latest MS security update yet. However I did look at them at the 'Windows Update' page.


Yes them. There were 18 or 19 of them for a variety of things. But the majority only say "A security issue has been identified that could allow an authenticated attacker to gain access and potentially compromise your Microsoft Windows-based system. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer." Very generic as only a few cite a specific MS application or process.


With Micro$oft all users are beta testers for the life of the product! Oh yeah, and you always must restart your computer - not "may".

I had just downloaded all Windows Updates. Thought it would help. It did not help! So, don't do it.

None of this would be an issue if Microsoft would just test their own code.

They can't.

Word recently got out that WindowsXP is such a mess that much of it had to be abandoned to build Vista.

Normally, jettisoning a mess of bad code for fresh would be a good thing. Too bad Microsoft has a long and distinguished record of taking out old bugs and putting in new ones, as the article indicates.

Please. I have a Mac Mini and in the past three weeks I've received over 70 megabytes of Apple "security updates" for Quicktime, iTunes, et al on that machine.

So don't act like the Mac is some kind of panacea for chronic security problems. It isn't.
