What never ceases to amaze me is how much the Republicans COUNTED on the "pundits" to get their message out.

But now when they disagree with the President, they are "self indulgent"

Ya'll sound like the dims

You've sparked my interest. I must read more about Marshall---most of my knowledge had to do with his handling of business-related cases in the Supreme Court. Sigh. Now another book or two on my growing stack.

BTW, you'd enjoy our treatment of Marshall in "A Patriot's History of the United States" if you haven't already seen it.

Areally interesting guy. I can't point immediately to a definitive biography. Just interesting "stuff" along the way. One anecdote. He once walked from Valley Forge to his home in Virginia. His father had, I think, taken in a ruined businessman , with several pretty daughters and he kept building up the visit of this princely son. Well, in comes Marshall, shambling tall gawky young guy looking like a tramp (he never cared much for clothes anything) and all the girls said "eek". Except one, who fell in love and married him. Very bright guy. Interested in astronomy, I have heard. So many comparisons and contrasts with cousin Jefferson. When Jefferson returned from Paris, he was dressed to like a French aristocrat. Somewhere along the way, he took to simple "republican" dress. Reminds me of Jimmy Carter and his sweaters. Marshall was always a slob. A man after my own heart!
