Sen. Fred Smith, Congresswoman Myrick; Patrick Ballantine (rumored); Ambassador Jim Cain (rumored); heaven forbid Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory (rumored) - anyone else?

Myrick can't win - too many negatives. Pittenger is supporting her because he wants her congressional seat.

She seems to be one of 38 members of the 2nd Amendment Caucus http://www.grnc.org/new_discussion/_disc3/00000057.htm

I am not familiar with NC politics, as I just moved here a few months ago.

No, she can't win. Too many negatives.

A poll to be released on Wednesday will show her with a relatively high approval rating but that is due to no one knowing who the other Rep. candidates are. She may win the nomination in '08 because our primaries are won in the western half of the state but, unfortunately, the general election is won in the east.

Perdue or Moore will beat her. Too many negatives.

Can she win?

Not only can she, but she's our best bet.

I wouldn't say she's our best bet - we may not have a best bet in '08. I just know her negatives - and they will come out in time - are sky high. I know of one top Dem consultant who is drooling at the fact that she may be the nominee.

Our "political bench" is non-existent.

You keep saying "too many negatives" over and over but haven't said what they are.

What are they?

What are they?

Can't you read? There are "too many" of them.

Personal items - I won't give specifics.

One big political problem she has is she is from Mecklenburg County. Forget Gov. Martin for a minute (remember, he was fortunate enough to run twice when Reagan was running for President AND got to run against "The Drunk" Rufus Edmiston); NO ONE from Mecklenburg County can win the Governor's mansion today. There are many political reasons why - one of which is the disdain that all parts of NC has for Mecklenburg County (i.e. Charlotte)

What this state needs is someone like Gov. Sanford in SC. A strong conservative who speaks right to the people.

Even though '08 is a long way off - I think the winner of the Bev Perdue vs. Richard Moore race on the Dem side will win the general election fairly easily. Again, that is as of today. A LOT could happen between now and '08 that would change everything!

Correction - Martin won once with Reagan on the ticket and again with Bush on the ticket. No matter - Reagan and Bush still won NC BIG.

"Not only can she, but she's our best bet."

You might want to wait until every single lost textile and furniture mill worker's job, every vacant mill and textile mill "ghost town" are hung around her neck in negative campaign ads, for her not-too-terribly-popular-in-NC vote on CAFTA-DR, before you place that bet.

Great point - one of many political AND personal reasons why she will have A LOT of trouble.

North Carolina GOP doesn't have a political bench?

None to speak of.

We're down 63-57 in the State House; 29-21 in the State Senate; we hold only 3 of 10 Council of State seats and we really don't have a prominent STATE Republican that can capture the Governor's mansion. To add to the misery, early polling indicates that we are going to LOSE some State House and Senate seats!

NC voters are like Kevin Bacon in Animal House. No matter how hard the elected RATS spank the people of NC they go to the polls on election day and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

"NC voters are like Kevin Bacon in Animal House. No matter how hard the elected RATS spank the people of NC they go to the polls on election day and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?""

VERY true! I know this is difficult for people outside of NC to understand but this state is run by 'Rats. It is truly incredible. We may actually LOSE state House and Senate seats in '06 - that boggles the mind considering that we are hopelessly in the minority in both. Remember this, the 'Rats have raised taxes in this state by over $1 billion for 4 years!

Thank you sir, may I have another?

That's why I like Myrick for the job.

Jim Cain is a possible, but I'd like to see where he stands on, you know, everything. Fred Smith?? Yes, I know the name and the rumor, but ..... I can't imagine Ballantine thinking he has a shot after his disaster of a campaign last year, but hey, Vinroot ran in '04 despite no one wanting him.
