"What a piece of AP liberal spin. The headline says "heavy Sunni Arab opposition," yet the vote tally in one of those Sunni provinces is about 4-to-1 in favor!"

And the reported vote tally in Anbar and Salahuddin show 70 - 80% no votes. You're spinning it more if you say that doesn't represent 'heavy opposition' than if you do.

Next referendum ought to be on splitting up the country. Then and only then will these people get it together. Put it to a vote.

Nineveh has a Sunni majority. If 300000 voted YES and 80000 voted NO, how the did the AP concluded that "vast majority" of Sunni is against the Constitution draft? It is just unbelievable how hate against President Bush can blind the defeated liberal media from seeing the simplest facts.

moderates could take a more active role in politics, hard-liners could turn to the insurgency, deciding violence is the only hope of retaining influence in the country.

Hardly a prayer that the Sunnis would return to influence in the country. They might hope to split the Sunni Triangle off from the remainder of the country.

The cold hard facts are that a minority of Sunnis UNNATURALLY held power in Iraq due to the imposition of a dictatorship.

The Shia's and Kurd's now have the guns and the military. The Sunnis will not take "the country" back.

Where did you get the vote count for Anbar and Salahuddin provinces?

They may have reached the threshold in Anbar and Salahuddin, but Diyala and Ninevah provinces appeared to have supported the document by a wide margin.

I am amazed at the power such a very, very small group of elites have...the MSM.

IMHO, they have said power because, "we the people" give it to them.

Notice your own words..."elites" and "MSM" for example. As long as "we the people" continue to perpetuate the lie that these "reporters" are elite and somehow deserve our respect, their "power" will continue to undermine the true mainstream America.

e·lite or é·lite ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-lt, -lt) n. pl. elite or e·lites
A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status

main·stream ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mnstrm)n.
The prevailing current of thought, influence, or activity

While they may continue to represent the "mainstream" of the media world, that world, as you so aptly point out, is a very, very small group. Most of the press that I have been in contact with recently, do not have the intellect of my pet rock.

The media, in no way, represents the prevailing current of thought, influence or activity of mainstream Americans.

>>By the way, I couldn't wait to read my Sunday morning edition of the Albany Times Union to see what they'd say about the Iraq vote.<<

Same here - the Arizona Repulsive could not resist their Amercia hating LIBERAL bias. Here is the headline - "Big Sunni turnout puts Iraq charter at risk of failing " (http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/1016iraq16.html)

The apparent victory was muted, though, by the prospect that the result might divide the country further.

A likely concern from people who have lived under a dictatorship as long as the Iraqi's have.

I can't help but consider why the terrorists do not bomb polling places and kill lots of people on election days.

Does it not seem strange that just days and hours after the election, the insurgants are killing innocent Iraqis but do not do so on election days?

I think it is clear that the terrorists believe that bombing votes would be counter productive. That it would turn not only Kurds and Shites against them but Sunnis as well.

That leads me to believe that the bombings and killings are not designed to influence Iraqis.. they are designed to influence Amercan public opinion. If the terrorists really thought they could frighten Iraqi citizens into surrender to the old Bathist regime, election day would have been one constant bombing report and a sea of dead bodies.

No the old time supporters of Saddam only hope to make We Americans go home so they can continue the fight against us here on our own soil.

Thank you. So over 70% of votes were YES in Daliya and Nenevah provinces which have Sunni majority, and "may be" not yet confirmed that over two third of votes were NO in Anabar and Salluhadine provinces which also have a Sunni majority. I may conclude that there may be a simple majority of Sunni against the Constitution draft but no where close to the "vast majority" of Sunni saying NO as the media is telling us.

65% voter turn out in Fallujah!

And the reactionaries on this forum wanted them all bombed to Kingdom come.

Hope they've reconsidered.
