The term diversity actually does not imply preferential treatment.

Diversity then, is a goal not a strategy?

Or would she reverse the recent findings supported by Sandra Day O'Connor that favor racial preferences and affirmative action in the universities? Again, I find that her writings point the other way.

"Again" as if you had that for the gays and the pro-life? Haw.

What did you EXPECT her to say about a generalized question about "stare decisis"? You have to scope the question, which is whether she views the duty of the Supreme Court to include always persisting in a foolish consistency. As you know, it HAS reversed itself many times through years of history. On abortion, O'Connor got hung up on the infinitely abusable "health of the mother" issue. There's lots of ways to reason to a different policy, and I am sure Scalia and Thomas and Roberts will be glad to fill her in on just how.

"After the vitriol I've read on here from the Pro-Miers crowd"

You have got to be joking. You've got to be. Today I, for suggesting we allow the president's nominee to have a chance to be heard, have been called a "pimp" and a "White House shill" and have been invited to call the anti-Miers group "Neanderthals" and "jerks," which had never crossed my mind until the invitation was received. I just read an anti-Miers poster accusing supporters of the constitutional process of having their heads up the president's heine or some such, but it was too vile for me to continue reading so I can't tell you what the rest of it said. Let's get some perspective on where the vitriol is coming from here, shall we?

a select few must have forgotten what Free Republic is all about.

Kissing George Bush's behind and bellowing out to the RINO's in the Senate, "THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVED ANOTHER?"

If you think this is a Repubs only website, you are sadly mistaken.

She's earned it..........since she's too dumb to know her own limitations........

If I needed brain surgery, I would'nt go to a General Practioner.

I've read all her writings on my PDF file and she's a concensus candidate who's only training is how to mediate disputes among lawyers............

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

I have never written a published article, legal brief, or professional letter as incoherent as Miers' gems. I'll gladly cast the first stone.

Thank you for reminding us that sexism plays no part, not even an itty-bitty one (how dare you suggest it) in the opposition to Miers.

Unless a nominee to the high court has serious ethical or legal problems, the Senate has no right to refuse a President's requested nominee

Please show me where this is written in the Constitution, because I can't find it.

"If she's boning up now in preparation to face hostile questions (and trick questions regarding abstruse and obscure cases) from the Senate committee, that's to be expected. Any other nominee would be, and should be, too."

You are spot on!

That people are reading into each report the worst interpretation sets off alarms. Why are these people so willing to jump on President Bush?

It is true that exceptional people sometimes come from obscure schools (Ronald Reagan). It is also true that the big name schools sometimes produce idiots (Chuck Schumer).
However, the inverse snobbery I keep seeing on FR has become ludicrous. It's harder to get into a top school, and it's harder to graduate from one. It's may not be the be all and end all, but it is a real measure of your ability to compete within a very bright group and should not be airily discounted.

First of all, Welcome to FR.

Secondly, the spin out of the WH coming from people like ed gillespie who call critics "Sexist and Elitist" and finally andy card calling critics "cynical"

Finally, posted below are just a few examples of what people have said against pundits and other people who oppose this nomination...

To: counterpunch
"I was referring directly to sinkspur's signaled approval of attacking conservative pundits with pies and condiments."

LOL, whoever threw the pies at Buchanan should have put irons in them.

No, Laura is undergoing Chemo for breast cancer and getting over her fiance' dumping her when he found out she had cancer. She wanted a loving Husband and children, now her prospects are gone. she should take several months off and try to regain her composure and stop transferring the blame for her failed relationship on the President. It is the scum that ran off on you sweetheart, it is not your fault either. She is not the same Laura and she is losing lot of listeners because she bitches and complains about everything. I feel sorry for her on two counts, but she needs to get professional help and handle her anger better. A little anger is a good thing, she is way beyond overload.

... circular firing squad here ...

I think a more appropriate word is melee. I'm pretty sick of being judged by the ranting and raving of fools and brownshirts. What you perceive as a circular firing squad is providing balance for the lurkers between the brownshirts and those of us who cherish freedom. The lurkers should know the brownshirts aren't the majority here, thereby neutralizing some of the fascist damage they do to the party.

I myself see nothing wrong with working toward a culture respective of everyones culture. I don't want my culture forced on anyone, and vice versa. The issue with most people is that they wish to force certain cultures to minority status in favor of a common culture. I hate that. I love varied cultures, and I respect other cultures. Life would be boring without them.

That being said, I feel the focus is WAY too much these days. I encourage, as a student seeking a secondary education degree in social sciences, that we teach our kids respect of other cultures and to feel strong about there own. We have became a nation though that tries hard not to step on toes. The war on terror is an example. We are at war against Islamofacists, not the Amishfacists, Buddhistfascists, or even those dreaded Taoifacist. Why not call the war what it is? Fear of hurting others feelings. If a rogue Christian group flew a plane into the World Trade Center I'd be the first to denounce them, yet we use the term multiculturalism to protect us from others pointing fingers and saying we are hatemongers. Makes me sick.

Yeah. Like you. I suggest you reread what JimRob said in his website statement. This is not a Republican website. FR is a conservative website. And the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is what FReepers live by. Especially, the first amendment right to freedom of speech. Without which there would be no FreeRepublic.com.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech..

The Founders meant this to apply directly to political dissent.

"It's long been known (and promised) that we were going to send up a conservative (that means pro-life) nominee in the mold of a Scalia. There is absolutely no excuse not to do so now. Who cares how bloody the Senate battles may get. If there's no woman who wants the job, then I'm sure there are plenty of qualified men. Somebody up there really screwed the pooch on this one. Whoever's advising the president on this needs to grow a bigger pair!!

It has yet to be established that President Bush promised any such thing. A few inuendos by Al Gore alleging the President said that, but I have seen no verifiable evidence. Perhaps you have some?

BTW ... Not very eloquent, was he?

But then when you own the site, might makes right.
