Sessions, Cornyn and Coburn the newest Bushbots, liberals and haters of the US Constitution.

One wonders how they will be smeared.

She has and continues to do so (read between the lines).

Here's what I came up with:

LIES AND DAMN LIES.

Is that what you're talking about?

This does give us more of an insight into maybe what kind of lawyer she is. Still, lay out Harriet Meiers' bio next to Janice Rogers Browns' and tell me who you are more comfortable with on the court.

Mr. Coburn (R)

..affirmative.

“Harriet Miers deserves a fair and thorough hearing and confirmation process. I look forward to learning more about her qualifications and judicial philosophy in the coming days,” Dr. Coburn said, adding that he plans to meet with Miers this week.”

How can that statement be construed-under even the most charitable of definitions-as an affirmation of this nominee?

"Actually, her 2005 words convince me otherwise."

If Ted Kennedy told you -- that despite his past stances on abortion -- that he's now pro-life... would you believe him?

Miers is too wishy washy for nomination to the highest court in the land. She's against one organization at one point in time and then for it later on. Sounds like John Kerry.

It's not called political evolution; it's called flip-flopping when convenient and expected.

See speeches by President Bush and VP Cheney on down (link above).

CHENEY - November 15, 2001

This is the second time I have had the privilege of addressing the Federalist Society. I was here as secretary of defense in 1990. Then, as now, filling the role as your token non-lawyer. Not that I have anything against lawyers. Looking around the room, I'd guess that about half of you a year ago were in Florida.

(LAUGHTER)

And I can assure you we do deeply appreciate all those lawyers who went to Florida.

I do have a lot of friends here this evening. And it nice to see all of you. And I do bring with me as well the good wishes and greetings of a man we're all very proud of, President George W. Bush.

(APPLAUSE)

There are many members of the Federalist Society in our administration. We know that because, of course, they were quizzed about it under oath.

(LAUGHTER)

We're especially proud to have two of your founders at the Department of Energy, the general counsel, Lee Lieberman Otis (ph), and, of course, Secretary Spence Abraham.

(APPLAUSE)

The Federalist Society was formed to bring balance to the debate in our law schools and in the legal profession. You were founded on the conviction that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of powers is essential to the operation of our government, and that judges are charged with interpreting the law, not inventing it.

In advancing this principles, you have changed the debate while gaining the respect of people all across the ideological spectrum.

CHENEY: The Federalist Society has been a model of thoughtful, reasoned dialogue. You've helped bring a spirit of civility to Washington, D.C. And even more remarkably, you've managed to bring it to some of the law schools.

(LAUGHTER)

Your spirit of honest, fair-minded debate has not always prevailed, as Judge Bork can attest. But against great odds, this organization has become one of the most influential in the world of law and public policy. I commend you for it.

I can't find the one where President or candidate Bush spoke at a FedSoc function, or about them. Still looking. Probably right under my nose ;-)

We won't forget this.

Cornyn and others should just hope that the President pulls this nomination, because if he doesn't-and their votes for this manifestly incompetent, mediocre woman are recorded-they will bear the political price in coming elections.

I'm on the side that believes Harriet Miers should be given a fair and thorough hearing and then voted up or down by the senate like the Constitution says.

I'm not into smears, in fact they make me ill.

It still doesn't prove that this woman is qualifed for a judgeship on the federal circuit courts, let alone, a seat on the Supreme Court.

once I see some actual confirmation about a "rebellion" growing within the ranks of the Federalist Society, with many going "on the record" with negative remarks about HM, I will respond appropriately at that time.

The FedSoc won't take a position. It is a debating society. Any dissent [to this nominee and this nomination process] will come from individuals, some of whom are FedSoc members.

Great! You know what bugs me? All the whiners complaining how she said something different 17 years ago. They never bothered to find out that 17 years ago she was still a Democrat, duh! OK, let's try again. She remained a Democrat until 1988 –17 years ago- so, one is bound to find contradictions in her old writings and speeches.

I guess political and religious shifts which change a person for the better means nothing to some people, especially some Freepers.

I'd hate like hell to be one of your kids.

As they mature, you're likely to call their growth "flip-flopping just so they can get the car keys."

Whose we? On FR we speak for ourselves. If you're going to make idle threats at least have the balls to speak for yourself and leave the French army out of it.

Torie,
This is where we've come to on FR. Know nothing nobodies threatening good conservative senators with extinction for endorsing the constitutional process for advice and consent.

Sickening.
