...The Federal Aviation Administration officials told Channel 4 that no flight plan was filed and the aircraft's transponder was not turned on, so air traffic controllers did not monitor the flight. The agency is probing its own traffic system to see if there is any record of the plane flying during the time in question, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said....

This is not good. So a terrorist can steal a plane and fly it anywhere undetected.

I would have thought we'd have a system to prevent this in place by now.

There's a small airport that would accomodate such craft, but generally the fliers want more landing space...and lately I've had the nuisance of a helicopter who likes to fly low and won't leave. When I got out my binocs, he skedaddled.

These jets can fly tens of thousands of feet high. What are they doing diving 300 ft above my house in a rural area? I can't get their flight numbers fast enough to turn them in to the FAA, but I haven't given up.

No, I don't find then charming, and they shriek and scream. Now I get to wonder if some kid is at the controls because the owner won't lock up his toy. As per my own dreams, I'd rather fly like the heron than a guided missle, but that'll never be an option.

couldn't have been this plane. The one that's buzzing me is a little smaller, I think, with wings folded slightly back at a more acute angle to the fusillade. Also, it has no peaky-up things at the tips of the wings. (No, I don't know what they're called.)

There are a number of little cheapy jets being mfged now--they think they'll be like taxis before too much longer.

I know how you feel, I get airplanes that fly over my house all of the time.

The C-17s and C5As are the worst...the rattle the dishs and everything.

Can't wait to see my first F22 come screaming over - they should be here some time next spring.

one way or the other, yes every takeoff is followed by a landing.

Confucius says, "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing".

Flying is easy

And here's the instructions we gave to new F-16 pilots.

Push forward on stick, ground gets big. Pull back on stick, ground gets small. Keep pulling back on stick, ground gets big again.

Yes, but I'm in a rural area that is quite some distance (hours of driving distance) from a "real" airport. No private jet needs to be 300 ft overhead unless he's hotrodding.
