Hey, I'm from Philly and I'd much rather meet Santorum than U2...not all of us are bleeding heart liberals ;)

LOL...I was just thinking the same thing...Bono can be a bit of a blowhard bonehead, but he has managed to stay fairly consistent at least.

Faithful Catholic, married to the same woman for many years, devoted to causes and actually walks the walk...

There may be hope for him yet

I know you guys are up there.

After all, Rizzo [one of my all-time favorite Democrats] won a few terms.

Clinton News Network just said it's a hoax.

Adjust your paradigm. Bono is also close to Bill Frist for his pro-bono (sorry, couldn't resist) work with the poor in Africa.

He made a cameo appearance at a small Frist fundraiser in Manhatten during the Republican National Convention. Blew us away.

I'm sorry, but this is just a blatant and pathetic attempt to make Santorum look cool to young voters by the way this story is being presented.

First of all, this concert is just another stop on U2's tour. It was not set up just for Santorum, as this story is trying to suggest -- The thousand-dollar-a-seat concert has been put together by Sean and Ana Wolfington and will take place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia in support of Santorum’s re-election. (That whole senetence is just wrong.) I have seats to this show. I bought them the day they went on sale. They were about fifty bucks, and a little extra for the ticketmaster fee. Plus, as I remember from buying tickets for Vote For Change in 2004, it must be disclosed this event is being held for political purposes when you buy the tickets. There was no such disclaimer.
Truth is, Santorum bought a suite for the night and is charging people 1K to hang with him there. There is nothing wrong with that. And if U2 genuinely wanted to have a fundraiser just for him, hey fine. I'm all for stuff like that, too. But the real truth is that either Santorum or the right wing bloggers are trying to make it sound like U2 is holding this concert just for Rick. That is an outright pathetic and manipulative lie.

I'd be excited if U2 had a young group of fans, but most of them are over 35.

You know what I meant -- to imply that one of the hippest, most famous bands in the world is holding a fundraiser just for one particular candidate is nothing more than an attempt at making him look cool because U2 is associated. Despite how easily the distortion is proven, some people will still believe it. I guess that would go for the over 35 crowd as well. But I've been to a few U2 shows. There are tons of younger people there also.

STATEMENT BY JAMIE DRUMMOND, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF DATA (debt AIDS trade Africa), THE AFRICA ADVOCACY GROUP CO-FOUNDED BY BONO:

"Throughout the U2 tour, politicians from both sides have been organizing fundraisers at the venues or around specific shows. Neither DATA or Bono are involved in these and they cannot be controlled. The U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician - they are rock concerts for U2 fans."
