When democrats and liberal media pundits like her, that sure sends up a red flag to me. ...and I'm what?
All this itching, whining and moaning over a Supreme selection is giving the leftist unearned stature with their ideological claim the Constitution is a living document.
The elitist of the right seemed to have fallen into the snare of the leftist minded groupies, the Constitution can only be interrupted by "special" minds, and not understandable by mere commoners. Many have embarrassed themselves and do not have a clue.
I'm disappointed by her nomination, too. This may be a capable appointment (I'd love to find out how wrong I was in a few years), but I'm afraid I don't have much confidence in 'pig-in-the-poke' selections - not when the nation's future is riding on it - especially not when 'trusting' the President has brought numerous disappointments on the civic side of his governance.
"The elitist of the right seemed to have fallen into the snare of the leftist minded groupies.."
Yup, many of the lefty's made the same accusations about Bush...he is not qualified to be president...and I guess now, the elitist right must agree with the lefty's.
WARNING WILL ROBINSON ... bUSHbOT ALERT!!!!
I don't think her CV or scholarship is the real question. What I'm concerned with is her actual allegiance to the Constitution.
I really couldnt care less what William Kristol thinks of it. I dont know Harriet Meirs from a bag of donuts but I'm willing to wait and see what our President has in mind. I might be a bit naive, I have faith that he has done the right thing.
We will now see just how important that block of politicians is to the Republican party ~ Ohio maybe?
By being afraid to nominate well-known conservative nominees such as Michael McConnell, Michael Luttig, Janice Brown, and/or a dozen others, President Bush has given the Dems and the libs a huge political gift.
Why? Because by acting scared, GWB has implied (admitted?) that these conservative candidates are too "out of the mainstream" to be on the SC.
NOW was the time for GWB to change the current bogus political culture.
NOW was the time to put up a solid conservative candidate so once and for all we could get rid of this baloney put forth by the mainstream media Dem-left that conservatives are out of the mainstream.
Harriet Miers is probably a nice capable woman, and she might even make a good SC justice.
But GWB has blown a huge opportunity to re-cast what it means to be a conservative Judge in this country, and for that, I am totally demoralized.
If you want a Google GMail account, FReepmail me.
They're going fast!
That might be a poor choice of words.
Harriet Miers was a member of Valley View Christian Church in Dallas for 25 years, where Hecht was an elder. He comended her ten-year service on the missions committee where she taught children in Sunday School, made coffee, and brought donuts sayin that "Nothing she's asked to do in church is beneath her."
Some critics of her qualifications have chuckled at the thought that she is qualified to bring donuts to the other Supreme Court justices. Although I think it is humorous, I realize that she is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. I do not question her qualifications. I do however question GWB's assertion that she was the most qualified candidate.
She's the most qualified "that he knows." Could be that he is at odds with some significant factor in the other front runners that we would expect.
Bush has made his pool shot, the ball is still caroming off the edges of the table. Let's see what gets sunk into the pocket before going haywire.
She will serve coffee, donuts, and a heaping plateful of crow.
I am sure that Harriet Miers will serve crow. I will eat all of it with glee. The more crow she serves, the happier I will be. I am merely concerned about the size of the portions and the quality of the crow that she will serve. I want heaping portions of high quality crow.
