I think moving under the best conditions is exhausting; I cannot believe having to do it your way. :)
I have only lived in 4 houses in the past 48 years and all of them are within a 4 miles radius. We just loaded the pickup a few times and took a couple of days to get moved. Pets were moved last.

Sounds like you met and made some long time friends. I did. I didn't even know Katie -- Brandon's fiancée -- was going to be there. She said she'd heard so much about me from Mark, Brandon, and their friends that she had been looking forward to meeting me for a long time. I had no idea. How can you NOT like a stranger who donates half a day to moving you to your new home? LOL She really is an amazing young woman.
Kristy and family -- I discovered, in meeting them, why I was so drawn to this particular apartment. And am meeting some very nice people at church who are going out of their way to help me settle in, be friends, etc.

Down The Road
Im setting up some real estate,
For a special breed of folks,
The kind who think the rest are all,
Somewhat pathetic jokes.
The sort of person who,
Just wants to be left alone.
And who can get on fine if he,
Is stuck out on his own.
Im talking about curmudgeons,
A classless sort of class.
The ones who, when you try to help,
Tell you to ... take a pass.
They arent the devilish kind of folks,
Nor angels, you can tell,
They dont get on with people types,
But they dont belong in Hell.
So Im setting up a place nearby,
The climates not so good.
But the understanding is,
Its for the misunderstood.
Theyll have their books, and poetry,
And other things they like,
And prominently stated in the yard,
The sentiment, Take a Hike!
They like to be alone, you see,
And theyre content with that,
So if you have a nominee,
Then you can pass the hat.
Well solve a problem in this way,
And another thing thats swell,
Is if some lost souls ventured by,
Theyd be told ... directions well.

Moving is a like a nightmare, .. it's so nice when one wakes up, the nightmare is over..and one can finally sit down, relax in one's new home, look around and declare"I really like this place! ".

WOW! I'm
moved to respond to these stories as they bring forth memories of U-Haul being Me-Haul experiences.
Thankfully, we've lived in the same place for 15 years with no plans to move any time soon.
During our last move, I was able to watch everyone else do the packing, loading, unloading and unpacking cuz I wrapped up in a body cast (chest to hips) while recovering from a lumbar fusion. Lucky me?!?
Rule of Thumb regarding a move to a new house... A 2-car garage is for two cars, not a storage area. Why do folks store their second largest investment(s) in the driveway or on the street where it falls prey to vandals and thieves and store our junk in the garage?
To: PreviouslyA-Lurker
Good Afternoon, PAL.
Hope you have time to spend with us today.
We miss you.
Have a Happy Wednesday.

Errrr ...because you don't know where else to put the junk?
Good afternoon, DD.
I think fall has come to the Valley. Mornings have been kinda cool here.

Some walks are longer than others...
Rhonda Braden walks through her childhood neighborhoods where her father lived.

Thanks, PAL.
I'm still amazed at the amount of destruction. I can't imagine taking the walk that she is taking. I think that walk would seem twice as long as actual.
Is work slowing down any? I hope it slows enough that you can stop by several times a day.

Why do folks store their second largest investment(s) in the driveway or on the street where it falls prey to vandals and thieves and store our junk in the garage? Right! Of course, one might say with two cars, you need a THREE car garage to be able to park both of them inside. :)
