Well, I have to say...while I donated to the SBV, and rec'd this same email yesterday, your above comment is a little ironic. John O'Neill is a plaintiff's atty and supported, briefly, John Edwards. His issue was keeping Kerry out of office--
That observed, I'd like to know how serious this lawsuit threat is to the participants. While you can sue anyone for anything, you can't always get it past a judge...And I'm certainly considering helping out.
There's little chance that the law suits against the vets will win. Unfortunately, there's a great chance that defense costs could bankrupt them. Indeed, that's probably what the real purpose of the suits is--to punish them for their courage by bankrupting them with litigation costs. In this way these suits are quite similar to the groundless suits against the gun manufacturers, one of the main purposes of which is to bankrupt their targets through the astronomical costs of defending against groundless litigation.
Or the plaintiff's atty can file and then sit on it, which is what a lot of the lazy sobs do...let the defense do the work.
We are still very upset with George Bush's treatment of the SBVs during the 2004 election.
I would like again to be enthusiatic about George W. Bush but it's up to him to connect and bond with people. He has a hard time with it.
These SBVs are a major factor along with FR why GWB has a second term.
GWB has shown that he will protect the powerful no matter what their views before he acknowledges the people that speak truth.
Still we will hold our noses when voting as we once again back the GOP. The only thinkg the GOP has got going for it is that their opposition is so awful.

"I deal daily with lawyers and find them generally to be despicable. "
So long as you recognize that "generally" means there are some rare exceptions, I agree.

"Agreed, I have good friends who are lawyers who are growing tired of how perverted their profession has become."
It is up to the good ones to do something about it as it is with all groups and professions. Attorneys such as your friend can not wait for the American Bar Association to do it.
