Hopefully, Bush did not get duped the way his father did with Souter and the way Reagan did with Kennedy and O'Connor. I trust Bush to do the right thing, but I must admit I am worried.

And you should be.

In picking Miers, Bush either knew that he would get a big push back from his conservative base and didn't care or he didn't anticipate the highly negative reaction that he is getting from his most loyal supporters. In either case it shows a failure of judgment that will mark his presidency forever in a negative way unless Harriet Miers turns out to be another Scalia, a highly unlikely result from the selection of a "reformed Democrat".
