Perhaps she is Souter in womans clothing, but I mean that in a GOOD way for us, think about it.

When Bader-Meinhoff and Stephens announced the other day that they supported the next candidate's right not to answer any questions she/he didn't want to, most of us were shocked and even confused.
What did they know and when did they know it?

Bush said he would pick the best qualified person, regardless of race or gender. If he had picked one of the Ediths or Janice Rogers Brown, then I could believe it. But in the case of of Miers, he lied. Plain and simple. She may turn out to be a fine jurist and please conservatives and textualists everywhere. But "the most qualified person" she is not.
To: buckeyeblogger
It's been oft quoted that "....but you can't please all of the people all of the time." It seems like young Bush is bordering on not being able to please hardly anyone at any time. I am not ready to jump off the cliff on this one but the Miers nomination suggests the possibility of adding another item to his crap list.
- Failure to address illegal alien problem
- Failure to veto "drunken sailor" spending
- Going wobbly on the war on terror (i.e., with respect to Syria, Iran)
- Inability to articulate the need to confront Al Qaeda in the mideast
- Creating perception of poor performance with respect to hurricane Katrina
- Highly questionable supreme Court nominee(s)
Time will tell.

Mark Levin is not overly thrilled with this choice but he's not completely turned off either. This was a political appointment and yes there were candidates with better resumes than Miers.

Just like Roberts, Miers is a 'wait and see', the problem with that is if they turn out bogus we're stuck with them..and for a long time. What are this woman's qualifications to sit on the highest court in the land?

I guess if we don't want to be hypocritical we hope the Senate passes her because she is qualified and the President wants her,, isn't that what we were saying to the Democrats as they decided on Roberts?
for those who says Bush picked a friend,, well maybe that's best because all the horror picks by the Republican Presidents in the last 50 years have been people the Presidents didn't know very well personally,,,
that said Bush better know something we don't

If open borders was not enough . . .
if ignoring the loss of our national sovereignty was not enough . . .
if spending more on social welfare than FDR and LBJ was not enough . . .
if being more liberal fiscally than Bill Clinton was not enough . . .
is this SCOTUS pick enough?
Are you Bush loyalists and party loyalists ready to finally start fighting for the nation's future instead of playing excuse maker for nonconservative Bush and the liberal Republican Party?

I am very ticked off at this nomination. I have always felt that Bush does what he says he will do, but not anymore. If I could go have my spine removed, I would send it to him because he surely needs it.
To: buckeyeblogger
The president said he would pick a candidate like Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas, and he did not. We all know of outstanding individuals who fit that bill, and they were once again passed over. Even David Souter had a more compelling resume that Miers.
I'm a Levin fan, but to be fair, Levin doesn't know whether or not Harriet Miers will be another Scalia or Thomas. But his David Souter comment proves the point that all too often, resumes don't mean a hill of beans and for that, he lost his own argument.

Look, it's over. Finally, with these two picks Bush has proved himself a traitor to conservatives. He's always been a moderate just his like father. A weak, linguini-spined liberal. This conforms the END of his Presidency and his official lame-duck status.
Batter-up!
