I thought about you as the storm was moving up east Texas, but I just missed making contact with you in the following days.

We're back home in West Chambers County, Texas. Our only damage was two large Cedar trees down in our front yard. We got power back late Sunday afternoon. Thank God.

Thanks. They issued a mandatory about noon Thurs. and I was on the road at 1:30--headed north. I turned west in Lufkin and sthere was very little traffic. I made it to my brother's in College Station without incident. Well, my car broke down but I called AAA and brother and by the time he got to us the wrecker was there and the entire thing took less than 45 minutes. The connection to the battery had come loose--or something. It was no big deal--that's all I would have needed.

I'm just glad we got out of Jasper before because there are 2 huge pine trees blocking our driveway and street and one on the roof over my mother's bedroom. We were so lucky. Everybody there I've talked to says it's miserable--no elect, no water, no stores open, no food, no gasoline.

I left Jasper at 1:30p.m. Thursday and got to Lufkin in normal driving time.

I can't go home for 4 or 5 weeks but somebody here is going over soon to see what the deal is. We know there is a pine tree on the roof and a pole and some transformers in our front yard. Two huge trees in our yard fell across the steet and they are blocking our driveway.

Was I in a hurry to leave? I left the keys in the deadbolt lock outside.

The Rita sign is [was] on a house at the other end of my street. But, yes, that is a clean yard. My yard wasn't much different (left side). As you can see, we still have some deep shade going on out front. :)

I fly past your house all the time. Chiminey Rock just north of you is a mess, but you knew that already. I'm glad they are fixing it. I don't think my spinal column could take much more.

heh. a beer? In that case, I feel obligated to mention that Outback at Meyerland has 22oz mugs. :)

I want you to know that you helped someone today by your post about that Home Depot having generators. One of our friends from out of town called and asked if his second cousin who lives in the south part of Houston could borrow our generator, now that we are okay.

Ours was a borrowed one, and could've gotten the permission to loan it out to him, but he had to travel 30 some miles each way to get it and return when gas is precious commodity around here.

To make a long story short kind of thing, we all assumed that there was none to be bought, but after reading your post, we called the Home Depot you mentioned and found out that they had plenty to choose from.

My friend who lives in MS, got hit by Katrina (a big oak tree fell down in the middle of her pool) and yesterday afternoon, she emailed a quick one liner saying that the tornado warning siren was going off and that she was unplugging her computer.

We got a call about an hour later. She was okay, her house survived, but there were 8 big trees down on her property, and her electrical panel was ripped off the house when one of the trees hit it. Twice in a row, she got hit.

But the media doesn't report stuff like this because she is a hard working, upper class, white person. She ain't gonna get a debit card, nor does she want one. Nothing to see here, move along.

I've completely given up on expecting anything from the media. Unless and until we find decent people who would be willing to get into that profession, journalism will become a dying profession.

It's amazing how much damage they do.
