Morning,
Are y'all keeping a list? I'm concerned about pbrown - I can't seem to find any thing from her since late Friday afternoon - she lives in Leesville, LA .. it's north of Lake Charles and just about due east of Lufkin.

I'm thinkin' they're still without power, etc. Just posting to keep this going.. :)

Yes, we are; and pbrown is on our list. We're looking for her, too.

Let us know if you hear anything from her.

I'm looking for daybreakcoming. Tried calling, but no luck.

3 pages? I never printed it out, so I had no idea it was that many.

Any word from daybreakcoming that I might have missed?

We haven't heard from her yet either pamlet. I've written down the info you gave on her location. Thanks for letting us know. I'll ping you when she checks in.

Hubby & I left Thurs morning at 2 am and only got 34 miles outside of Houston in 9 hours. One hour was spent waiting in line at a gas station to get half a tank of gas. Shortly afterwards, we realized the attempt to evacuate was futile and turned around for home. After being gone 10 hours, we arrived home and had a helluva hurricane party with my 26 yr old son and two of his friends, who also tried to leave but couldn't.

My son spent 3 1/2 hrs driving ONE AND A HALF MILES before getting back to his house! This was a huge fiasco and we were all grateful to get back home and have Rita miss us. Thanks to all of your for your prayers and concern.

Not a word yet. Do you want me to e-mail you the list? I'm keeping a running list in a word document deleting each name as they check in.

We can compare later, if you don't mind. I'm making room in the attic right now for all the stuff my niece is not taking with her in her new move. Again.

This is going to be a really good tool someday. I can just picture you and I donning our cammies, jumping into a big old pickup truck and heading out to rescue stranded Freepers.

Of course there are some minor problems, such as we don't know their address........or what they look like...............or what their real names are........

But little details like that won't stop us! Right?

I thought of you yesterday reading that dog rescue thread; did you see it?

I would bet my house that you'd do that.

I hope your SIL's family home escaped damage....
Let us know how they fared as soon as you hear Willie.

OK, thanks.....
As I'm sure you'd understand, my brother is the one who's coordinating our communication with those folks, but I'll post whatever information is relayed to me as soon as I get it. But the most important thing IS, everybody is SAFE. We're just not sure when we can get them back home. Probably be another day-or-two yet. And they're ALL welcome to come here if they can't get back to Lake Charles right away.

Yep, I would. The only difference is I would have been writing down the location, trying to find out the owner's names, put their pictures on a website and notified the red cross so they could let folks know and then make sure the dogs had a chance to get back to their people.

Did you see those pictures? The eyes of those dogs.......I don't think I've even seen a look like that in a dog's eyes.

I left North Austin at 22:15 and pulled in to my drive (180 miles) at 01:40. Did some grocery shopping this morning everyone from my church evac'd so I am just waiting to see what is going to happen up on lake Livingston. NO DAMAGE, just a few trees here and there. Bay Oaks golf course looks to be playable.

I'm back online now. Lost 4 limbs off an oak in the backyard. Looks like one of them shorted the powerline on the way down. Lost power at 2:30 am Saturday and got it back about 90 minutes ago.

I took a walk around the neighborhood Saturday morning. Lots of sticks and leaves everywhere, a few snapped limbs here and there, but no damage to the houses. One house at the end of the block has "Rita be nice" spray-painted on the plywood.

LOL! I love the comments that are written on the plywood. Turns out Rita had much better manners than Katrina.

The media isn't showing this maybe because it is a smaller more rural area,

Yeah, our family evacuees are actually in some little town called "Zwolle, La", which is (near as I can figure) about 50 miles due east of Nacodoches, just on the Louisiana side of something called "Toledo Bend Reservoir". I never heard of it before, but it looks like a big long lake on the Tx/La border, just south of Shreveport. Phone communication with them has been difficult, but when we've made contact, we've been able to determine that everybody is OK and that their biggest concern is how soon they'll be able to leave.

I got a huge oak across my house and haven't been allowed in yet to see what I'm going to have to deal with.

Sorry to hear that.
I hope the damage isn't as bad as it sounds.
I assume you'll at least need some roof repairs, but I hope it didn't crash all the way through and take out the walls and everything else in that part of the house.
It's weird, but in addition to being thankful that we were lucky, my brothers and I are also feeling guilty about being "disappointed" that we missed some of the excitement. It certainly isn't the type of "excitement" that we'd want to wish on anybody. But at the same time, after I get done raking up all the little loose crap that blew out of the trees, I'm gonna have to turn on the lawn sprinklers so the grass doesn't completely dry out and die. Jeeeez, I certainly didn't want to get flooded, but we really could've used maybe an inch or two more of rain than what we got.

I tried the please transfer me to her room bit with them, but they go as far as to say if you do not have a room number they will give the patient a message to call you, but will not transfer you to a room.

Thing is with her at least as of the last time we spoke to her nurse at St. Elizabeth's she was still on oxygen and unable to speak.

HIPPA does not preclude a hospital from telling someone, especially a relative, if the person is in the hospital. It does preclude them from divulging direct medical information. You'd think in a time like this they would be a bit more willing to help those of us looking for our relatives.

Btw, the director of nursing at Hollyhill will not be on the phone, you're transfered to her voice mail to leave a message. She's yet to call me back.
