They always claim is that all they desire is to be left alone and not discriminated against - then, they insist that a widow who needs to rent a room to pay the bills, must rent one to a gay man, gay and lesbians must teach our children, lead their Scout groups and overnights, then be ordained as church leaders, then adopt our fatherless children (mostly boys), then be able to have a sexual connection to young boys, then be legally wed in the eyes of God and man.

I suppose what their meaning of nondiscrimination is that of a preferred class to do whatever they desire, whenever they desire to do it, with society's blessing.

However, to claim that this man was gay AFTER his death to try and promote some sicko agenda is beyond disgusting! This man isn't here to defend himself so slimy Andrew Sullivan types can make these claims and this priest isn't here to defend himself against these claims.

These people will stop at nothing to promote their wickedness and it's sad that yet another dead man, especially one who died while trying to save lives, must have his name bemirched like this!

As time passed, Brendan Fay began to organize events claming Father Mike to be “Hero, Priest and Gay.” The media began to refer to Father Mike as being not just “gay,” but an “openly gay” priest. None of this was true. I wrote a letter to Gannett Newspapers about one such reference to Father Mike. Gannett responded by citing law that you can't defame a dead person. If he was engaging in homosexual or heterosexual activities while a priest; he was a disgrace and should have never been ordained.

If he could not honor a simple rule of the priesthood (i.e. chastity) then how effective of a priest could he have really been?

Why should parishioners follow the teachings of a hypocrite?

As Catholics, we deserve better than then priest's who molest children, Cardinals and Bishop's who cover it up, and priest who don't even follow the basic canons of the Roman Catholic Church.

Leaving the issue of Fr Mychal's being gay aside, Sullivan's theoretical point is all wrong. What Sullivan means to say is that a homosexual can be a saintly, or heroic person yet the Church would not let him be priest. Fair enough. So what?

Mother Theresa is heroic and a saint. She cannot be a priest -- she is a woman. St. Boris and St. Gleb were heroes and saints. They could not be Catholic priests -- they were post-schism Orthodox. Priesthood is a specific vocation with specific requirements. Heterosexuality is one of them.
