Personally I think they ought to name them after the congresscritters running for re-election that year (alphabetically by state or by district). It'd be fun to watch them squirm when their name came up.

The violent swaying of palms is what causes the wind to get so fierce. I thought everyone knew that. Cut down the palms and hurricanes will be milder.

Agamemnon, Bellerophon, Gorgon, Dionysus...

Asclepius would be an ironic name for a hurricane, neh?

"We go to the Greek alphabet," said Frank Lepore, spokesman for the National Hurricane Center.

Racists... how about the urban alphabet? Antwan, Beyonce, Carletta, De(insert your favorite name here), Ebony, Felopian,... The list is endless!

Well, you know trees cause wind. Just look outside whenever it is windy, and what do you see? All of the trees swaying back and forth! Their violent movement causes the wind.

Maybe palms, being closer to the shores (and more prevalent in the hurricane areas) are stronger, or somehow put a "twist" on the winds to make them all converge in a big circular pattern, and Voila a hurricane is created.

I think "such names as Omicron and Upsilon" would meet her requirements.

God, the LAST thing we need is to hear some of our "weather specialists" trying to pronounce "Bellerophon" on national tv.

If they cycle through the whole alphabet again, would the next storm be Telemonian Ajax?

Of course, then there would be ten other hurricanes in their kindergarten class with the same name. I wonder if now the name "Katrina" will decline in popularity?

I have a friend named Rita who is thrilled by the prominence of her name--she's hoping it enjoys a second run as a popular baby name because she thinks it's too pretty for its association with older generations only.

Twenty-one names are reserved each year (the letters q, u, x, y and z are not used), and the names are recycled every six years, minus those retired. When a name is retired, the World Meteorological Organization chooses a new name to replace it.

Jus' use the names of "prominent" liberals. This way they will be immortalized and made famous for the destruction they have perpetrated on this country.

Too hard to find names that start with those letters.
