So, you're discarding all research by anyone who gets any money from a drug company?
You think the universities and government orgs. are studying this? Please. If it weren't for drug companies, there'd be no research done at all.
Of the drugs released in the past several years only 10% of drugs made came from research done by any sort of government funded unit, and even after that, drug companies had to do research on their own to get through FDA regulations.
In the world of ADHD advocacy, CHADD, based in Landover, MD, is an 800-pound gorilla, claiming 20,000 members and 200 affiliates, even offering members a CHADD Visa Card. Though the organization, which also engages in lobbying, claims to provide "science-based, evidence-based information about ADHD" to parents and the public, critics say CHADD basically promotes stimulant medications manufactured by its corporate donors. Pharmaceutical companies - including Novartis and McNeil - donated a total of $674,000 in fiscal year 2002-2003, making up 17 percent of the group's budget, according to CHADD financial documents posted on its website.

There are non-stimulant ADHD medications, just an FYI.
When did drug companies get to be a bad thing? When did innovation become evil?
And if getting money from a drug company tainted research and information-sharing then any group who does research would be discounted.
That was excellent! I noticed early on that my son was always much better behaved when he got a chance to burn it off. It was an effort but I'd always make sure he got his exercise when he got testy. It worked wonders.
There is a great book out called "Better Late Than Early" by Drs. Moore and Moore. A great book on early childhood education. They propose putting off formal classroom instruction till about 10 years of age when the kids bodies are physically developed enough to handle it. Thanks for your input.
People who are taking psychopharm cocktails have a real zeal about defending the practice. And, you can do whatever you want with your own brain. However, it is wrong to force kids to take these drugs, which demonstrably cause permanent organic brain damage.
Indeed, but it also shows a lack of initiative, drive and maybe even intelligence on their part. That is the real crime, many teachers are not smart enough to be in charge of children.
But it isn't just the gifted children, the numbers are terrifying. I can't help but wonder if this a conspiracy and even if it isn't, what is their goal?
No. I know lots from families with 2 parents.
Anyone with true ADHD has a chemical imbalance. So, organic brain changes made by any ADHD medication is not detrimental. An increase in norepinephrine by ADHD meds doesn't harm any brain activity, it increases functions of the brain which don't work correctly in the first place.
There is no organic brain damage, only organic brain changes that involve the release of norepinephrine to appropriate levels.
It's happening in private Christian schools too. My son went to one, and they thought he might have ADD. They also convinced a friend of mine to put her son on Ritalin. My son does not have ADD, but he is gifted. I'm sure the other boy didn't have ADD either.
My daughter has brain damage, and I've read a lot about ADD and ADHD. Some kids really do have the problem, and they really do need help. It's definitely a real problem, but it is so over-diagnosed.
There are lots of natural ways to help treat it. Just adding fish oil (EFAs) to a kids diet will help with it.
Some parents also try alternative teaching methods to help their kids with ADD/ADHD.
I would try natural products and alternative teaching first before ever putting my kid on medication.
Thanks for your response.
Their goal is to forcefully bring the personal information and medical treatment of all American males under the purview of "Hillary Healthcare," with the redoubtable Ms. Clinton at their head.
Wow you really blew my mind with this one. I've never thought of having boys exercise or do physical training when they start to get restless in learning. Even though I myself have done pushups and the like during many a study session. Makes perfect sense. I also wonder if the style of teaching is actually optimized for girls. I've always thought that everyone, both boys and girls, were completely disinterested in what was going on in the classroom because everyone was way too smart for what was being taught. But I can't argue with the recent trends, girls already way outnumber boys on almost all college campuses and it really does seem like a strong movement is taking place within the entertainment and education industries to shift boys into the military and working class while moving girls into the intellectual fields of leadership and societal development.
Seems to be going that way, doesn't it.
I'm not going to let it happen to my son. He's gifted, and he is going to go far.
I will say that my daughters are also. However, I am also teaching them that their first responsibility is to their children. They can have a career before or after kids.
1. What is the chemical that is out of balance?
2. What is the balance supposed to be?
3. What is the test that measures when the chemical is out of balance?
4. Name one study that proves questions 1 - 3 (above) were answered, then the imbalance was brought into balance through use of any psychotropic medication.
Unfortunately, you're misinformed AND medicated. That's a bad combination.
Same here.
You are one smart mom.
Just wait until mandatory mental health screening starts.

Mandatory mental health screening = Mandatory drugging
From what I have seen, the teachers usually are recommending that the kid needs the meds, and the parents fall in line and willingly accept and take the kids to the doctors for the medications. Sick. Children do not need this in most cases.
