How dare Roberts not have an ideological bias!!! Or have the wrong ideological bias! Or something like that.
Bloomy is a bloomin' idiot. He, like everyone else who favors abortion, wasn't.

Bloomberg is no Rudy, in any way.
To: alessandrofiaschi
Instead, he says, "I don't have an overarching, uniform philosophy", which means that he will follow the Congress as well as a lot of precedents. So you assume that means he will never go against Roe? Why couldn't it be against some other precedent he was speaking about and not Roe?

Do you think Rehnquist was an originalist?
To: Puddleglum
You'll soon see "your" Roberts favoring abortion in Court. He will never reject abortion! But he hasn't the courage to make a clear statement on this issue.

I was keeping that post between Roberts and Bloomberg. I personally think Roberts is the best choice for Chief Justice, in spite of what he has said about Roe. The real decision, I believe, will be who's to succeed O'Connor, which will really make the difference.

"I am not sure why he even comments on this - his stand on abortion means nothing as mayor of NYC."He just wants to reassure voters he's just another amoral liberal, IMO.

"New York Republicans" are not "Real Republicans" and I offer as evidence the present and former mayors of New York City.

so why does EVERY political decision have to include abortion???????I feel the abortion issue was intended to undermine "Natural Law" philosophy of our founding. That being said not everyone who fights for the right to abortion on demand understands that. But if you have a "central plan" in mind with economic planned growth and sustainable development from an all powerful governing central authority, I guess you better get people used to the idea of population control, one way or another.

My view of Roberts is that he has thoughtfully studied the process of US Supreme Court nominations, and knows what to say, and what not to say.
I think he's a conservative who has the democrats spellbound.
I'll bet he has gone over these hearings in his mind for many many years.
It's not like he came out of college last year. He was an aide (or whatever they are called) to Judge Rehnquist on the court. He had a great case to study.
If Roberts came before the Senate Judiciary Committee with an open anti-abortion attitude, he'd never get on the court. Anyone with a brain knows that.
In my opinion, he is playing his cards close to his chest.

Since his appointment, I wrote that he was more similar to Kennedy than to Scalia or Thomas... You are simply wrong. He is closer to Scalia and Thomas than anyone else on the court. He sees the role of a Supreme Court Justice as a slave to the Constitution.

so why does EVERY political decision have to include abortion??????? It is a feeble and unconstitutional law protected by the left. It is very precarious and the leftists know it.

There is a growing pile of materials, in Roberts' opinions and in the Reagan-era documents dribbling out of the White House, that indicates he has personally held conservative views on major frontsabortion, religion, and executive power. But Roberts lacks is a clear judicial philosophy. As a result, proponents of judicial restraint an approach to the law that's become as fashionable among liberals as conservatives are eager to embrace him as one of their own. Leftist advocates of restraint celebrate justices who don't reach out beyond the facts of a case to decide more than they need to and who respect existing Supreme Court precedent. Roberts' judicial conservatism will stay on this line. Which is very different from that judicial philosophy, willing to jettison past anti-costitutional decisions(Thomas and Scalia).
