"I could have chalked him up as nothing more than a redneck fundamentalist who is best ignored."

I believe that Dr. Bennett's comments are every bit as asinine as those from our lefty "intellectuals" who see 9/11 as retribution for America's sins.

My question is: should someone like Ms. Falsani, the Sun-Times' "Religion Writer" resort to using a bigoted term like "redneck" to describe a minister with whom she disagrees? Should she be asked to publish an apology or resign as "religion writer?"

This guy has just as much right to say what he wants as Louis Farrakhan has to say that whites blew up the bridge. Other side of the same coin. Same kind of person, different extremes.

Shame that we are so quick to censor the thoughts or words of others. This is more typical liberal thinking than conservative.

The original intent was to point out that the United States of America right now is in a deep state of sin.

Why didn't this guy write "America is a modern day Soddom and Gammorah"? I don't buy it that he meant the whole country. He meant NO.

I love the people here that know full well they can demean rednecks, baptists, southerners etc etc with impunity.

FR has become PC, but only for certain groups. Rednecks etc are fair game.

How come Tom Robbins comments are correct but Dr. Benett's aren't? Looks like the writer is letting bias show. Nah, that can't be right.

Well, I am a GRITS and a Southern Baptist. I am very proud of both. My ancestors have been in the South since the 1700's and in some cases since the late 1600's. I am tired of the few characters on this site who put down both.

That's my question - why is this so-called religion writer using that term to describe a minister?

Do you recall any mass migration of rednecks moving NORTH for opportunity during the last fifty years????? Since WW2 the north has been moving south. Rather odd that they cannot abide the rednecks, their religion or their culture yet the migration continues to this day.

My question is: should someone like Ms. Falsani, the Sun-Times' "Religion Writer" resort to using a bigoted term like "redneck" to describe a minister with whom she disagrees? Should she be asked to publish an apology or resign as "religion writer?"

She called him on the PHONE, and concludes that he's a "REDNECK."

Absolutely she ought to be sacked for that.

She also dismisses that in response to his absolutely legally protected speech, church property was vandalized, which is illegal.

She's a terrible excuse for a human being. Some "religion" writer.

I never discuss or argue religion as it is fruitless.

When the media decides whom to attack because of their belief or whatever, then I am interested.

I don't think this guy reflects the culture or religion of the majority of rednecks. I'd be offended by him, too, and think he gives southerners a bad name.

Though he has every right to put it up.

Now how could New Orleans be both Sodom and Gamorrah? Interestingly I did see an article on San Francicso reviewing their disaster plans and couldn't help but think maybe that'd be a good idea just in case.

Mom..That goes into belief and I wont go there.

I detest those that would muzzle the man, when they cannot do that, they attack. I have yet to see any remarks by the man that are beyond propriety.

Those that spout ugly words such as bigot, hypocrite etc etc are only painting a public picture of themselves.

"I think this demonstrates whose side God may actually be on," Robbins said. "Maybe all of us who like to eat, drink and make merry should relax."

Err.. so why is the claim that because the quarter infamous for drunken debauchery, robbery, and prostitution was spared demonstrative of God's approval any less offensive, if not in fact moreso.

The prophets who speak of fire and brimstone are never popular, that is not to say that they are wrong.
