We apparently don't have all the facts here. Maybe the bedding had been taken off to be laundered? Maybe they put the bedding in there at every night at bedtime, because the kids tended to scoot in and out and spill food and things on their bedding in the daytime? We don't know, do we?
I'm just saying that ---reserving judgment until all the facts are in ---- it doesn't seem ot me that we can assume AT THIS POINT that these people are negligent or abusive, especially in the light of testimony that the kids were well-dressed,they were healthy, they spoke politely, and played like normal kids.
This sounds like a wonderful outcome for handicapped kids, especially kids with autism.
I recall reading stories from Japan about storage lockers for people. They were found in the airport, they had bedding, and you could rent the cubby for the night.
I live in a suburb of Cleveland and watched the news on this tonight. The police and SS folks said before they went to the house they prayed this wouldn't be true. When they saw the room and the cages they said they were speechless.
I actually think it's probably WORSE than they are reporting.
There are some conservatives who'd tell you: "You're supposed to be *having* 11+ kids or you're sinning in the eyes of God."
And we can't forget the nutty argument liberals like to make: "If you're really pro-life you'd be adopting all these kids no one wants."
Saw a photo today. They ARE cages, built with 2x4s and rabbit wire. A ladder on the outside for the kid sleeping above to climb into his/her cage. Looked rather like a puppy mill.
Forgot to add, the man's biological children, in their 30s, both say that they never should have been allowed to adopt children. Apparently there were some issues way back. Another neighbor reported having seen the mom whale the stuffing out of 2 toddlers with a cut off broomstick. Reports were made....but you know how that goes.
