It gets much worse over here (UK) than this article, or Harold Evans. In fact, this is from his profile at the BBC:
"I will talk a little bit about why I identify with America, why I fell in love with it even while being aware of its blemishes. I'm also going to talk about anti-Americanism," he says. Contemporary anti-Americanism, or Bush-bashing, gets his goat. While Evans has no problem with people making cogent criticisms of American politics and policy, he has little time for the knee-jerk assumption that everything America does must be bad or evil or driven by deep, dark ulterior motives
If this is our friend, just imagine what our enemies write! Not stuff I'd post on FR!
He's also responsible for the USSR, China, Marx, racism, Communism, Capitalism, Free Trade, pimples, halitosis and bad hair days.
Anybody who spent so much time on a boat named after a dog must be nuts.
SeaLion, the BBC didn't post my email about the historical mistakes in the article. What the BBC did (and I'm sure this will come as no surprise) is that between noon and five today they corrected the article (correcting the mistakes I pointed out) to make it appear as if Evans had the correct date all along. Take a look at how it NOW reads compared to what they had earlier.
SeaLion, the Herbert Hoover quote (a staple posting on left wing blogs) is taken grossly out of context. Hoover was making a specific factual statement about a specific program by Northwest apple growers to hire the underemployed to market their apples direct to the public. He wasn't making any general statement about the unemployed, or advocating apple-selling as a depression cure-all.
