I guess that would be more funny on an animal rights thread. (believe me, I don't mind cat recipe jokes, but not really in this context).

The Constitution is being shredded and Freepers seem to be more concerned about the PETS. Ya know if it's a little thing we can do to help, big deal. Leave them alone.

I've given $100 to the Humane Society of the U.S. The problem with that is the HSUS is pretty rabidly antihunting and sister to the PETAwhackos. Local Humane organizations may not be.

I've done a lot here locally already, that is being taken to La and Miss... BUT also I gave a donation to BestFriends... they are the REAL deal!!.. lots of reading about what they are doing for the animals...

Call PETA! They're very helpful at finding homes for lost or stray pets:

You are right. I have written to them about this stance, pointing out that it is not theirs or anyone's else's business whether folks want to hunt. As a consequence, I don't pay any regular dues to the HSUS but I will--and do--support their efforts to help animals stranded by the hurricane.

Thanks so much for your concern (with the exception of a few smart-a**es) and donations. BTTT

Question is: are they helping?
Don't confuse the name with other "humane society" organizations.
I wonder what kind of help is given to needy pets by an organization who considers pets "animal slaves".
Again, do some research on them first. Please.
To: ctdonath2
I do believe that they are helping. The HSUS is an established organization dedicated to helping animals (I'm old enough to know that).
Just because I have a problem with their anti-hunting policies is no reason to doubt that they are actively engaged in helping rescue animals stranded or worse by the hurricane.
To: OldPossum
HSUS is not just anti-hunting, they're anti-pets, equating keeping an animal as a pet with slavery. Please, don't defend them on this animal rescue issue until you have actually confirmed they are doing so as you expect.
