I think he's got a point. Symbolism is very important in Islam. The crescent moon is the symbol of Islam, and even the designer here is admitting it's a crescent.

What's the source of your images? I went to the link you gave, and went all through the slide show and other documents, and saw nothing like the images you posted in your initial post.
I saw a bunch of partial circles in the design, but nothing like what you posted. Please provide the source for the images.
