This is the real reason Michael Brown was removed from Katrina.

You may be right. I've been put on hold for volunteer medical deployment to MS. Found out today local electric linemen have been put on hold too.

The NHC has now put Wilmington NC in the crosshairs, but they're still just guessing! Of the leading computer models, two have landfall in South Carolina, two in North Carolina, and two in Virginia. NHC just splits the difference..

I had a huge old oak tree on the house

that's my greatest fear during bad weather - I have one, also - if it comes down, it goes right through the center of the house. :(

I live in the Northern midwest. We had some good shear winds last sunday that tore out some good 200+ year old oaks ripped out by the roots. They don't like to call them tornadoes though. Shear winds seem to just come out of nowhere and just flatten everything in a 50 mile area and dissapear.

All of this loopiness and now it's hitting Wilmington and taking I-40 to Raleigh? If it stalls and strengthens it could be another Fran. Then again, the computer models contradict each other more than politicians chanting unity and disavowing the blame game. Could hit Egypt.

I've been out there during those "shear winds". Humph...they are ugly! My family was camping in Kansas with another family on our way west when a "storm" hit. We lashed all the vehicles and campers together and rode it out. We were the only ones left the next morning. You could see portions of tents and camping paraphenalia strewn all over the place, but not another human or vehicle in sight.

YOu know, I was lucky when my oak came down. Another tree caught a lot of the force, so that when it hit the house, the damage was much less than what it would have been if that tree hadn't caught it. But the sound...oh, the sound. My girls were home riding out the storm because it was supposed to be safe here versus where they live. My feller was in the shower,in the bathroom right under where the tree hit.

If she moves up on the Hurricane category chart, MoJo and the boys will be left at home without The Sailor. The ships will have to move out.

If that's the case, MoJo is headed home to Ohio.

......and the five day forecast includes a whole lot more of VA...

When they start mentioning DelMarVA or Maryland, then I know I'm in trouble.........

They really can be amazing, and no warning at all. My neighbors to the north got it really bad, it flattened an 80 acre swath of pines, oaks, maple, and poplar trees they had on some forrest property they own. Quite amazing how these winds just swoop in and carve out an area like that, then just disappears. They say these shear winds can pack winds around 185 mph or more. There isn't really much study as to what causes them though.

But every though we get those odd "windigo's" (ghost winds) It's still better than living along the east coast in hurricane ally. Even though you get some warning, you know you have to fix or replace something, or loose it all maybe. May house would be made of good steel and cement anchored into a solid rock hill if I lived there, LoL!

Shades of Isabel with this one. I'd very much like to avoid a repeat.
