It's so ingrained in me that I find it very difficult to understand liberal Jews. But I come from a family of mostly GOP Jews, so I was lucky to be properly educated in the politics of reality.

As Larry Lowenthal is finding out, not all of America's Jews have confused socialism with social justice.

He is also discovering his weltanschaung is parochial, limited to NYC and the Jewish Strip centered from Palm Beach County to Broward County.

I don't have any statistics, only personal experience: in the Baltimore-Washington area among all "russians" I know, the vast majority votes republican.

Even elderly, who are more dependent on the government handouts, voted in bigger numbers than before for Bush thanks to his firm stand against terrorism and his support for Israel.

As a Republican Jew, I've suggested several times within party circles that local GOP leaders rev up their outreach efforts in regard to Soviet Jewish immigrants in areas where they could be a significant voting bloc. As relative newcomers, these Soviet Jews are just beginning to get their feet wet in American politics, and their is a natural synergy between their experience and outlook on the one hand and the GOP's history and message on the other.

The other factor I think is that Russians having experienced the dangers of the Utopian dream, of the nanny state, are more conservative and want smaller government and revel in opportunities for self-achievment.
