LOL! Then I'm WELL into the arsenal stage. I currently have well over 2000 rds of .45, lots of .38spl, 12ga, and 30.06.
You just never know when life will throw you a curve.
This is hilarious. The crime rate in storm-ravaged Mississippi might actually rise to what passes for normal in Chicago.
Really, Souherners don't need encouragement to buy guns.
I am eagerly awaiting the newest addition to my armory, a CMP ordered M1 Garand which will arrive tomorrow! Now I need to covert my 72 hour emergency kit into a 240 hour kit.
Take the women SHOOTING! Teach them and once they get over any fear, they'll have FUN! Then, use THAT to encourage them buy their own weapons and ammo, thus increasing your total arsenal holdings.
I own one 9MM pistol. I am not a hunter, but many of my friends are and I have no problem with it. I had never felt a need to own anything bigger than the 9mm - until Katrina.
I will be going this weekend to look at options - AR-15 perhaps. Flooding would not be an issue where I am located, but there are other possibilities and I intend to defend myself and those around me.
Any recommendaqtions on what to purchase? Someting easy to use and maintain, with good "stopping power".
PS - unlike the geniuses in NO, I plan to obtain both the weapon AND the ammo!
I have three heavy safes bolted to concrete floors at home. I have others at undisclosed locations. What I listed is about half of what I have at home. I didn't even mention the gas operated semi autos, 1 at home and 2 others else where.
NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats a 12ga up close and personal. When you rack that PUMP, you instill FEAR into their nasty little hearts.
I know a retired Mo Statie who had a break-in and when he racked his pump from cruiser ready to READY, he heard the thief scrambling BACK out of the house.
I sure hope your neighbors know to run for the hills if they see smoke coming from your house! :-)
LOL!
Reality bites sometimes.
Great job.
My gun safes and ammo storage containers will contain and cooked off rounds.
That isn't much ammo at all.
I have a friend who moved to Texas from Alabama. She and her husband had a lot of ammo. When I asked her how much, she said...well...about 20,000 rounds.
THAT's a enough, in my opinion.
You're making my eyeballs tear up so much I can't read the screen. heh-heh, j/k
They do make AR-15 in 9MM (just to simplify the ammo supply)
Remmington 870 12GA with a short barrel for CQB would be good also.
You can't beat a 12 guage shotgun for stopping power. I'm not impressed with the 5.56 (223 cal) as a defensive round...I would buy a 7.62 (308). I own a Mossberg 500 12 guage shotgun for defense. I also have a Winchester 30-06 and a Ruger mini 14. Both of my daughters and my wife have 38 or 357 revolvers and I have a 45 Glock.
..and sell it to the US Dept. of DEFENSE as the 21st Century answer to replace the M2 Bradley.
They are probably in the check-out line at the gun store or reading the owner's manual to their new handgun.
Shoulda been thinking waaaaaay long before the hurricane when Columbine Shooting happened in '99 and John Lee Malvo in '01 9or was it '02)
I have a M1903A3 for distant targets 600-800 yards, the M-1 for closer in, and the 12ga for personal distances. Backup is the Ruger .45acp.
BTW all, MAKE SURE that you have sufficient amounts of food, water, and something to COOK WITH! Several bags of charcoal and a hobo stove does the trick. Also, make sure that you have a gallon of plain bleach for water purification.
More likely, after the LA riots. The Koreans standing outside their stores with weapons send the crowd to other stores!
Lesson Learned.
